Why is ESO the only game down when Xbox live goes down?

Can this please be explained to me? Is it that because the servers are built haphazardly or that they don't want you in the game at all if you can't get in the crown store?

I don't have an Xbox but don't you need Xbox live to play online?

Because the xbox servers are not down ESO servers are down.

I been playing 2k until they fix it.

Xbox has service interruptions all the time but u can always still play games fine its usually something small .

So anytime eso servers go down they go and see if they can blame it in xbox..

I know this for a fact because zos doesnt ever post xbox interruptions unless the servers are down lol

Because of how ZOS set their game server up. (That's the basic response)

Don't hold your breath for ZOS to respond cause it's likely something they can change but don't care to look into it.

It's because Zos links your Xbox live account to your zos account. In other words, they can't find your zos account if you're not logged into Xbox live. I'd bet they do something like this:
Step 1: get Xbox ID
Step 2: search for ESO account where Xbox ID = <value from step 1>
Step 2 obviously fails if step 1 also fails.

Presumably, they do this to enable better integration with Xbox services (it's easier if you assume Xbox is always up). They may also be required in their Microsoft contract; you need Xbox Gold for multiplayer and by definition ESO is multiplayer - it would be difficult to justify a single player (non Xbox live) version of the game.

Wouldn't that mean then that Xbox Live interruptions sometimes affect different games? That would still place the cause on Xbox, not ZOS.

When connection between the Microsoft store service is interrupted, ESO cannot be started, regardless if an account subscribes or not.

This is why the down system was directly the result of disconnect of "Purchase and Content Usage" despite all other online games being unaffected.

ESO is the only game on the XB1 which has an active subscription service.

There is ESO, Neverwinter, DCUO, STO, etc. there are plenty but it only seems this game is impacted by Xbox live items where Xbox live is up but one of the services is having issues that often times isn't related to this game.

However as I suggested to ZOS loooong ago.
All dlc stuff should be a sku on the Xbox live store rather than just some thing on their crown store

Too late now tho but other games have managed to have internal store items without issues so again....it's how ZOS has stuff set up

This is not true other games have subs but that's not the issues that's a whole different issue that ZOS has created for themselves.

Yes. When live is down completely nothing works. When it is down partially, some things work some do not. It doesn't go down completely very often. ESO is not the only MMO on the system. When ESO is not usable, the other MMOs aren't either.

I am not sure what the OP is talking about, but ESO is not the only thing that goes down when there is an outage.
