Where Are The Hovels?

The shanties? The holes in the wall just near the Outlaws Retreat? The little cell in the Ratway? The remote cabins with barely-solid plank walls? The little heap of canvas that someone calls a tent underneath the Great Tree in Elden Root? The cave where a bear and five dead bodies used to live? The giant storm-drain just outside the city wall with a few boards to serve as a floor?

Sure, we have those tiny starter homes, but other than that, where else can Tamriel's waste-cadets and down-and-outs make their home? Where's my paranoid, clinically depressed stamblade going to brood and sit up at night and write his illegible manifestos?

ZOS, I love all the homes you've put forward so far, but I also want some rattier, less prestigious options. I know I can't possibly be alone in that. We lowlifes, criminals, and working poor deserve our own piece of Tamriel.

Excellent post, @thrillho5000. Completely agree. Homestead has potential, but I wish Tamriel in the Second Era had more depravity, more variation in the social classes and racial groups. A tiny home akin to the Waterfront Shack in Oblivion would be fantastic.

That's true. Not every player wants a giant mansion or an upscale bungalow. There are few tiny, one-room homes to choose from, and they're all some variation of "room at an inn." I really do want a remote shack for some of my characters--it'd suit my main in particular.

That being said, the way that most of those Outlaws Refuges are set up, it looks like they might install some kind of homes in them in later expansions. Then again, maybe it's just wishful thinking...

Agreed - it would be great if they added way more "one room" low-class homesteads, stuff in scale of the basic inn apartment room, or the advanced inn apartment room, but all over the place.

Be it a small shack in the woods, a cave with a rickety door by the coast, a large tent near a field, a side room off the cities sewer system, a almost watertight habitable space in a crumbling ruin, a restored cabin in an old shipwreck, a rented room in some farmhouse, castle or cloister, a cellar room in moms townhouse... no, wait, that last one in IRL, not in the game... :p;)

In Skyrim, there was an old Dwemer watchtower not far from an Orc stronghold. I think it's Reachwind Eyrie. Anyway, it's cozy but it's really distinct and it has a great view of Reach Country, and I'd definitely pay to have something like that. There are all kinds of unique kinds of homes that they can develop for us, so I hope they do some brainstorming (or they can just ask us, of course)

I am kinda surprised they didn't offer just flat pieces of land for RP or Creative purposes. I can imagine someone building their own house out of structural house items like the long wooden planks and stone blocks. Or a training yard for new RP guild recruits. They could probably have the item limit larger since you have to build everything from the ground up.

I definitely agree, we should be able to build that small tent from a piece of leather we keep in mount's sack and few branches found in the woods :).

Yeah, first thing I wanted was a bandit lair with creepier music. Or a hideout under Riften.

    That would be fantastic!

Saw this wonderful, simple structure whilst walking the dog this morning, and it got me thinking about this thread again. I imagined it draped in furs or hides to keep out the wind and rain, a small fire to warm your hands and a bubbling pot of something savoury to fill an empty belly. Put a few barrels nearby to keep your belongings in, a few herbs in broken pots or in a rudimentary plot, add in the obligatory clothes line and you end up with what I think might be my perfect idea of 'Homestead'.

Simple, crude, honest, and perfect for my earthy, slightly smelly, nature-loving 'practitioner of hearth magicks'. And I would be a very happy person indeed :)
