I am a PS4 player and i use a crap laptop with 4 gigs of ram old i5 2.3ghz amd 2 gb video to acces PTS , in homestead i was barely hitting 40 on minimum settings with constant drops to 20 , however after i logged in today on minimum settings i had stable 80 fps so i tweaked the texture qualoty to medium and sub sampling to High only with grass on and i was getting stable 27 to 30 fps . This is a huge improvement for the game client , i think ZoS is compensating for Patch Notes with better performance :D , hope the effect will be similar on ps4 where the fps is far away from stable 30.

Homestead was open beta, Morrowind is closed beta. What you are seeing could be due simply to fewer people flooding the server.

Hmm...the only real performance drops I experience on live are in areas with high concentrations of other players (I get like 12 FPS by the Mournhold wayshrine). These issues are, as far as I can tell, present even for those with significantly better setups than mine. Since presumably the PTS doesn't have concentrations of players comparable to major cities on live (let alone major keep fights), I'm skeptical that the reason performance seems better on the PTS is due to actual improvements instead of fewer people.

OP isn't talking about the Morrowind beta, they're talking about the PTS, which is open to any PC player just like it was with Homestead.
7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019, Flawless Conqueror. MagDK/stamplar/stamwarden/mageblade. Requiem, Legend, Knights of Daggerfall. Currently retired from the wars; waiting on performance improvements.

You're just experiencing the joys of fewer people around you soaking up all the server's resources.

That's interesting. I would like to know how the OP can avoid having their PTS client automatically update to the latest (Morrowind) version. Now those without Morrowind access may still be able to log in to PTS perhaps being restricted to not having access to Morrowind areas, but it is STILL the same PTS server.

In this game it does. The game waits to render anything until it has received all the information from the server, which unfortunately is a huge bottleneck, especially when lots of players are nearby and are casting spells.

One thing I discovered accidentally was that switching from Fullscreen mode to Windowed (Fullscreen) resulted in some higher fps and instant alt+tab without hanging. I'm also now able to quit the game reliably without the process hanging.

Did that fix it? I think I changed to fullscreen because I read somewhere online that it might improve performance but I guess I'll have to look into all that again.

I had been using fullscreen mode because I used to play on a laptop with low specs and I had to run very low resolution. Now I am on a decent PC and only tried Windowed for the first time a couple days ago by accident.

But what I mean, when you alt-f4 like that, the double (or left-over) process doesn't stay?

Any chance you are just seeing the effects of low server pop on the pts?

One would think so, but in ESO's case, I believe you are incorrect.

    My ESO addons:
Midnight - Find out when midnight is so that you can check for ww/vamp spawn.
Goto - Adds a tab to the map pane allowing you to teleport to a friend, guildmate, or groupmate for free.

Before in Fullscreen mode frequently after playing a long time when I would quit the game (even by selecting quit from the menu and waiting) or by alt-F4, the game would hang for a long time and I would have to quit the process in task manager.

Now that no longer occurs, and also I can instantly alt-tab back and forth between different windows while the game is running.

Lol, considering the client is doing more than just making your screen look pretty, and that involves active connection and response from the server, I'd say your quite mistaken.

The performance difference (either way) could be from a combination of several different things, including complete coincidence.

Thanks. I used to play windowed most of the time too, but as I said only switched to fullscreen after reading that it may get a bit more of a performance increase. The fast tabbing is neat too, and I'm getting tired of ending the process in task manager every time I quit the game for months now. It's really annoying.
