How to gauge whether you are doing a good job healing or not?

I have no clue about PVE and even less clue about healing, just started doing some dungeons last night to try playing magicka DK healer.

I first did a few normal dungeons and they seemed too easy, so switched to veteran and managed to complete a couple, but also ran into problems with someone leaving and not being able to kill the boss with three people.

Should I try to have a certain minimum heals per second? or is that a useless metric?

If your party members are dead, you did a bad job*.

If your party members are alive, you're doing fine.

    *unless they stood in stupid.

Well that's easy to observe of course, but in the veteran dungeons sometimes it's like everybody gets feared and they stop blocking or there is some weird mechanic that kills them instantly.

If you are keeping your party alive your doing good. Although healing isn't just about keeping people alive.

You want to keep your team buffed and also contribute a little dps while in dungeons.

    Get Combat Metrics.

    Look at Minor Berserk uptimes.
Look at Minor Magickasteal outgoing debuff uptimes.
Look at Aggressive Horn/Major Force uptimes.
Look at Spell Power Cure uptimes.
Look at Minor Vulnerability/Off Balance uptimes on outgoing debuffs.
    Throwing orbs? Now throw more.

Now try to improve them all.

I check my DPS, and my HPS, and my de/buff uptimes.

I usually do about 20-35% of group DPS while doing 100%+ group heal with high de/buff uptimes then I did good
