MMO classic ploy

MMO classic ploy?

This is by far is not my first MMO. They usually nerf other character classes to the ground to promote new ones. They want money and force you to pay for expansions if you want to stay relevant. With that being said some people will leave and new players will replace them.

What games have you guys played where you experience this? Did you stay and adapt?

I personally will adapt to any potential changes. ESO is by far one of the best games I've played in a while.

One game that I remember doing this was Neverwinter Online, which I played prior to ESO launch. Every major patch seemed to shift certain classes either into the stratosphere or down into the dirt. This wasn't even dependent on a new class being released; it just happened patch to patch.

I feel a little deja vu because during my time there, I recall the Sorceror-esque Control Wizard class remained OP consistently.

DC universe online was the worst. There you could switch your character type with real world money. They made a lot of money that way.

Yea they did. Buff lighting nerf earth. Switch to lightning. Nerf lighting buff earth. Switched to earth. Nerfed earth buffed fire. Over and over again. I spent like 150$ a year just switching powers lol

Well DK was OP for a long, long time in WoW. They didn't really nerf anything else, they just made their new paid class stupidly good instead. No idea how it is now, I imagine balanced ever since monks came out with Pandaland. Haven't played that one in years though.

Ironically, the release of the Primalist paid class in Rift was actually very underwhelming. They had no raid healing or support capabilities, and their damage was sub-par at best compared to other class builds. Months later they had an OP skill tree added via another paid option, but even then it was difficult to play. For a long time there were only a handful of primalists in the entire game, but in the current meta they're very strong, so you see a decent amount.

Your post is cynical. You must be an argonian.

I think that developers at ZOS have tried to create a new class that is fun, competitive and unique. Thus far, as an evolution in MMOs across the board, ESO is pretty impressive. wardens will likely be no different.

Will Wardens be OP? If they err in balancing this class, they'll probably err on the side of OP versus making them weak. Who can blame them? They're going to have a ton of new players and people coming back to ESO to try them...they don't want a total flop.

But there's also an element of unpredictability. There are hundreds of abilities in the game now, and tens of thousands of gear combination possibilities. Have they tested to try to make Wardens a good balance? I'm sure they have. But there's also the possibility that there's some old set out there that no one uses that will proc a buff that will proc a critical Warden hit that will be vicious. This happens every update. The game is about continually refining things, which is part of why it remains fun. My Nightblade is very different in pvp that he was a year ago.

Whether super powerful or Templars-with-flowers, a lot of us are excited to try the Wardens and watch the bru-ha-ha that will ensue from having a whole new class in the game....and negative posts yelling about corporate scams aren't going to deter me from being excited about blowing some serious ice up some covenant templar's butt next month. Brr.

It's Your choice what you do.

Essentially they needed regen to the group which should affect every single class, including warden. And every single class has a source for regen of stats.

comments like this are so worthless. There are a lot of people who won't even play the Warden. They just want to be in Morrowind. So how are they being forced to pay for the Warden when they don't even care about it?

Personally I'm paying 100$ to get the CE with the statue...so technically for me the Warden and Vvardenfell is a free content update that came with my shiny statue.

I change my post to be a little more constructive.

BTW there are things that developers do that are quite obvious. A money grab is not a bad thing. It promotes new content.

Classes/skills/etc have been "nerfed into the ground" since the dawn of the MMO, without any monetization reasons or conspiracies needed. It just happens. (I mained a Hunter in WoW from vanilla through Cataclysm. Soooo many ups and downs.)

Remember the option to pay to replay daily quests?! Id still be playing DCUO if they didn't up the CP in that game every two weeks.

The only time a game update has made one of my characters unplayable it was when Guild Wars 1 revamped the Dervish. My Dervish build was literally unplayable - half the skills did completely different things and the other half were assigned to new attributes meaning I had to move all my points to make them viable, but I didn't necessarily want those skills anymore without the others.

It took me the better part of a day to come up with a new build, but I very quickly found I preferred the new one - it was actually much closer to what I'd wanted to do originally, which hadn't really been possible.

But that wasn't because they brought out a new class - that was actually one of the last major updates that game got before the sequel took all their time. I'm not quite sure why they changed that one class so much so late in the game, but I can't see that they made any money from it. (Changing your build was free.)

Maybe it helps that I prefer weird hybrid builds to min-maxing and I'm not detail orientated enough to worry about whether a skill lasts 1 second or 1.5. Most updates only have a minor effect on my builds and I just carry on as before.

When don't like the content I; don't sub, I continue to play, and don't buy anything.

That is the decision I've recently made on my own till I have an incentive to keep developing my character, others will feel indifferent and that's fine.

    To each their own.
