But...thought it does tell you? *goes to check* Yup, if you mouseover it it'll tell you either "use to add to your library" if it's one you don't know yet or "already in your library" if it's one you do know. Sorry OP, but this one is on you:/
You can also check your motif knowledge by finding the achievement for it, I find it a lot more convenient than having to use crafting station. Alliance motifs, among other stuff, are in general "crafting" achievement tab, dlc-specific motifs are in dlc achievement tabs(such as TG, DB, Minotaur, Silken, Maz etc).
You might get lucky this time. I wouldn't try and blame it on them when you put in a ticket though. Just say you made a mistake and want to refund it since you can't use it.
Before making a 5k crown purchase you should go look under achievements to ensure you don't know it.
You may get lucky and get a cs rep that is willing to help you, probably help to be nice and respectful with the rep. Not saying you wouldn't be, it's just easy to get frustrated when dealing with cs reps in general.

Any others can be obtained in game, with sufficient cash. Mimic Stones? Sure, but the motifs themselves? There's much better ways to spend your cash.

I thought that was an addon. Nice to know it is vanilla. I assume you are on a console if you are looking at achievements to see what motifs you know.

I'm actually on pc, I just like doing stuff the old fashioned way also like staring at my achievements
It is vanilla though. I have no lorebooks/motifs associated addons.

I'm not sure that addons to add info when you hover over an item is any less "old-fashioned," but it is definitely a personal matter of taste. I sure do like hovering over recipes and knowing all my characters who know it. Or opening anniversary boxes on alts and knowing if my main needs a motif page by just hovering over the page. Going in an out of inventory when I have 20 different motif pages from anniversary boxes on alts would be painful. Reminds me of the horrors of DA:I inventory (despite having so few things to put in inventory).

For some reason it doesn't state "known motif" next to motif name like with normal motifs, just says "motif book" there, but it does say "already in your library" below.

Trying to get images uploaded to imgur as well, but you must have an addon cause my doesn't say that. I checked on both the Ebonheart one and the basic race ones, which I've had for a long time, and it just click to add to library.

._. That is very odd because I disabled all and every one of my addons to check that and it says "already in your library" just the same. Sounds like a bug maybe?

I purchased the Ebonheart Pact one and went to train it and it says I already know that motiff...Well that sucks..I had looked to see if I could make this style already and didn't see it, but of course that was only if I was using the correct style material...click the stupid little Mimic Stone one and boom I can make it.
It's pretty lame that it doesn't tell you from the store if you already known a motiff or not, or maybe if you do know it should take it out of the store..I don't know. I don't normally mind micro transaction since it is my choice to spend the money or not, but that does make me feel a little cheated out of 5k crowns if I can't get it back.
Yes I did submit a ticket, but we all know how quickly CS responds to issues normally.
