Cooking inside our homes

I've tried searching the net but can't find any solid info. If I build/buy a fireplace will I be able to cook over it? Or is their a specific cooking station I need to buy/create in order to cook up my yummy recipes?

all crafting stations can be bought for master writs vouchers 35
    1. Blacksmith
    2. Clother
    3. Wood working
    4. Alchemy Station
    5. Enchanter
    6. Dye Station
    7. Provisioner Station

In order to obtain these you have two options, the longer options is to do daily normal writs, in hope you get a rare master writs, that gives vouchers when you have done that.

First time you do a master writ, it will lead to a npc that sells them

Or buy them in guild traders, the are from around 60-70kish now

No, you can't cook from the fireplace. I wanted to post this here before someone gives you the wrong info. The provisioning set you can buy from the crown store DOES NOT work in the fireplaces. It only works if you set it away from any walls. Not sure if the one you get by doing master writs is the same, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

When I found this out, I was super disappointed. I wanted to be able to set the provisioning station in the fireplace so I could cook from there like you can do in literally ANY inn, but it won't work.

I bought the premium fireplace/provisioning station for 2500 crowns I think it was from the home editor and it works inside the fireplace.

Does it? The one I bought doesn't work inside fireplaces, no matter what I do. I only saw one available when Homestead was released, so that was the one I got. Maybe they've come out with a different one since then, or maybe the one you got was in a different section and I just didn't see it. Good to know.
The one I got has a ring of stones around it in a circle.

I kinda understand all the other crafting stations, but... provisioning stations? As in, an darn fu... uhm... frigging cooking oven??? A fireplace you can hang a bloody soup pot over? That's pretty much the most basic thing to come with any house, isn't it?
Heck, you find those even without house, campfire-like...
I mean, come on... how many of you here live in a house without oven?

And whoever had to go on weeks quests to purchase one?

Makes me wish they had two stages of provisioning crafting stations, the "basic oven" you can buy at any furniture vendor (with cooking pot over fireplace visuals), but only cook green recipes on, and the "chef oven" you pay those mastercraft writs for, but can do ALL recipes on (with more involved visuals, at leasat a baking stove type...) I mean, that would have been neat, right?

I really don't understand either. Cooking is one of the easiest most basic skills in the game. I litterly see cooking stations everywhere in the game, if I see a fire then chances are I can cook on it. Should be the same for our houses. It would also give newer less experienced players something to do/level up in their homes. Instead you have to basically max out the skill line and level up to where you can receive master writs and then maybe save up your writs for a cooking fire... You should be able to cook in any home. I mean it only takes fire to cook anyways should be that simple...

I came across some bandits out in south Bangkorai, all sitting around a cooking fire.
Always being sociable and friendly before fighting, I asked, "Say there, bandit, how many master writs did this fine cooking fire cost you? Or did you two just pool your cash and spend the 2,500 crowns?
That last bit about the crowns must have angered them because without warning, they attacked me.
After I killed them, I tried for 5 minutes to pry the simple rocks and burning wood with a pot hanging over it, but damned if it was stuck fast to the dirt ground. I gave up and moved on.
As I whistled to myself, and headed off to aid some poor person in distress, I wondered how long until I can also afford a pile of rocks, a pot and some flame on which I can cook my meals.

This is awesome!!! Yet another valid point. How are you only going to limit cooking in our own homes that we worked so hard to get (whether it was in game with gold or real life with our jobs to buy crowns) to only vet players that can receive master writs. Since the beginning of time houses have always had kitchens no matter how small or big cheap or expensive. I mean everyone has to eat, including our toons. As a mag sorc I can't complete a vet dungeon without food buffs. Also with end game content getting harder and harder it's nearly impossible to survive without eating something, which is the way it should be. We should also have a basic cooking fire that's reasonably acquired. You can still leave the fancy cool looking cooking stations for writs or whatever. Hmm I want to reach out to ZOS now...

As I understand it, it's quite a random thing - but in my experience you have to reach lvl 50 in given craft (and at least 8 traits in everything) to get a Master Writ. I'm not sure if amount of known recipes/motiffs has any importance, as my Provisioner who knows 90% of recipes didn't get any M-Writs, but my Clothier who knows only basic blue and purple motiffs and those from the Holiday Events got 2, including one M-Writ for 124 vouchers... and my Blacksmith who knows around 50% of all motiffs got one for like 60 vouchers (don't remember exactly). On the other hand, I got multiple M-Writs with my Enchanter, who is fully maxed (lvl 50 in Enchanting, knows all the runes) - mostly for 2 vouchers, but also one for 80 vouchers.

From what I understand, for most of the crafting, you need to learn lots of purple and blue recipes to get a decent chance of getting master writs. (Or maybe it's just purple recipes ...) For alchemy, you need to know all the traits for every alchemy ingredient. (The more you know, the more likely you are to get an alchemy master writ.)
So the good news is that all those purple and blue recipes/blueprints you got from the anniversary boxes *should* help you get master writs. Supposedly.

I completely agree! I can't understand the meaning of those "provisioning stations", that looks like a simple firepits. Why players are forbidden to use a Khajiit firepit, for example, to cook a meal in their houses, but everywhere else in the whole Nirn when you see a Khajiit firepit "be my guest, have a cauldron and a pan, and everything you need"?! Other crafting stations for vouchers are alright, but so-called "cooking stations" shouldn't be among them. It's more than just illogical! Besides, those "stations" not fitting any normal civilized kitchen.
