Experience earned when grouped; is there a range?

If you group with a buddy for skyreach (or another zone) do you have to be close to the kills to get experience? For example, if I have a level 1 toon, can I just hide by the door and let my friend solo the dungeon, do I need to just be a few feet behind, or do I have to participate in the kills (e.g. lay down an AOE)?

Basically when you're too far, the name of the other guy in your group tab will be a bit darker. That's when you don't get XP

I think you get 10% when buddying up with someone. I would also think that as long as you are in the vicinity to get XP, you'll get the full amount... I think.

You only have to be in the vicinity. It is fairly easy to test.

Just go test it out and you will see your answer.
