I appreciate the OP's word of warning. I also appreciate that I now know how to get past not being able to open those boxes. I have a friend who plays but did not get any DLC. Passing the info along.

    Good thread!

Why not roleplay that you are a goodytwoshoes who was falsely accused just for being in the area something happened it, and you have to make up for it by being extra goodytwoshoesie. Me, I gots tha poyfect record, no convictions!

So the problem is you are metagaming going there, then complaining that your metagaming interfered with your RP?

The only in-game reason for going there is that a thief from the local thieves guild invited you there, or that you was thieving boxes that was not lawfully yours.

Or getting on a boat in Wayrest/Woodhearth/Windhelm after following the directions in the Adventurer's Almanac that there are "bounties and all sorts of other odd jobs" there. The city, the delves, and the group bosses have nothing to do with the Thieves Guild, and you shouldn't be forced into getting the skill line just because you're there for the completely unrelated side quests and activities.

Well then, how does role-players deal with having the skill line called Legerdemain?!? The entire skill line involves thievery and deception... even unlocking a chest means you are stealing... even if it doesn't state 'stealing' the fact that you are unlocking a chest that isn't yours implies stealing.

So do role-players go through the entire game without looting heavy sacks, chests, etc? I mean, all of that is stealing, and killing enemies is still killing, do you not also loot their dead bodies?

At what point is taking RPing to the point of it becoming nonsensical and more about simply being OCD?

Well, keep in mind that a lot of us hail from the old-school Elder Scrolls Community, we grew up playing Daggerfall and Morrowind, which where games designed specifically with this type of gameplay in mind. Guilds and factions where often at odds with one another, and joining one would get you locked out of another etc.

Of course, ESO is designed to allow players to experience all content on a single playthrough if they so choose, but there are still a good few of us who enjoy designing characters with spesific content in mind.

I know it probably sounds completely ridiculous to most of you, but being able to play this way is, for a lot of us, a big part of Elder Scrolls.

I do not count having the skill unless I unlock it via quest so if it puts the line in my *** window I will just about the quests.

Hey thanks for the heads up, I also have a character on which I never stole or murdered or broke any kind of law and I wouldn't like to have thieves guild skill line on that character.

Also for anyone who is playing ESO on pc and has a character which doesn't break the law, there is this addon called "No accidental stealing" that can save you the headache of accidentally pressing on items near the guild traders and so on.

I have it so I have to hold down letter "B" on my keyboard if I want to steal.

I roleplay a great deal in this game. I'm talking full blown heavy rp guilds, rules, events, you name it. Still complete all of the content on my characters, good or bad. Ooc/IC, separate the two and enjoy the full game. You don't have to incorporate in game mechanics and questlines into your roleplay.

Don't be fooled, myself and my entire guild of roleplayers are currently in discord sharing a good laugh about this one. Reading stuff like this makes me want to troll rp'rs...and I'm one of them. :D

Threads like these is why the rest of the gaming population trolls roleplayers.

    Quit the tantrums.

Are you also upset that your mage-character has a 2hander skill line? Or that your pure warrior orc who despises magic has a destruction/restoration staff skill line?

Or that you level (and here you actually level not just get it) the legerdemain skill line unlocking chests found in delves and dungeons? The chests that don't belong to anyone so you aren't stealing, but the skill line is still leveled. Oh which reminds me - is taking loot from enemies you kill lawful? Or is your main character doesn't loot any humanoids because it would be like murder + robbery?

There's obviously a lot of different kinds of roleplayers, some enjoy building their characters around the activities they do whilst playing the game regularly, whereas others have a more laid back approach to it.

I do apologise if it's making people upset, it was only ever meant as a heads up for those particular people who play this way, i realise now that this would probably have been a better idea to post in the roleplaying forum :p

I was not impressed with the TG DLC, it was not epic.

That said, I was hoping they might have designed TG (and DB for that matter) as "faction" based DLC. I mean "faction" in this sense to represent your ability to either side with the TG, or with the IRON WHEEL (each with it's own skill line). Remember killing the DB representative in SKYRIM?

Basically, they would have had to code for two distinct competing quest lines, in stead of the half hearted lazy TG quest we have.
