Alchemist Writs and Surveys: no Rawl'kha / Evermore / Riften delivery?

Soooo…. I have 8/8 solvent proficiency on my level 12 Alchemist. Why am I still getting writs for level 40 potions to be turned in to Malabal Tor? Why is there no Alchemist writ to turn in to Reaper’s March? Also, I have Orsinium, and have traveled there - would I need to pick up the writ there in order to get one that turns in there? I get that the game makes sure it doesn’t ask you to go somewhere you can’t get to yet, like Craglorn or Coldharbour (though I have been to the Hollow City with this character when I traveled to a friend). But I don’t understand why it wouldn’t at least advance to turning things in at Rawl’kha. My level 12 Enchanter who has 9/10 Potency Improvement is turning her writs in to Evermore in Bangkorai, so what’s with Alchemy?

If I was turning these in to Sentinel or Windhelm I wouldn’t really care, even if it seems strange the Alchemist Writs aren’t advancing, but Velyn Harbor is kind of annoying since it’s still under attack for this character, plus the survey is in a ridiculously tedious place to get to, miles from any wayshrine and through a spriggan infested cave, ug it takes forever! I’d been hoping when upgrading my solvent proficiency I’d get to move on, but no. :(

Am I experiencing some kind of glitch, or is there really no Alchemist writ for the final zones before Coldharbor? And if not, WHY?!?!?!

I'd love an answer to this, too. Thought I had done something wrong with my skill points.

The issue is, Alchemy only has 6 Proficiency Levels. And the game won't let you drop a writ off in a location you have not unlocked. So, if you have not been to Coldharbor and talked to the Grounds Keeper, you will never drop a writ off there. If you are not Vet1, you will never get a writ to go to Craglorn.

In the following post, just know that the top tier writs now drop off in Wrothgar, if you have that content, otherwise Craglorn, if your Vet Rank, otherwise it is mix of Zone 4 and Zone 5

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

This is still an issue. I keep all my writs on the same level for each alt for convenience, and moving them from Velyn Harbor to Rawl k'ha was next on the list for this alt. Most of them, no problem - Woodworking, Blacksmithing, Clothing and Enchanting all let you deliver to there.

Provisioning and Alchemy though stay at Velyn Harbor for TWO levels (which counters the fact that it's caused by Alchemy having fewer levels) and then go straight to Craglorn.

I even paid to respec my skills to check that I hadn't done anything wrong - goodbye 6500 gold. Nope.

I was trying to leave one alt on each level so that I can get all of the purple recipes for that level, which worked well up to Velyn Harbor. If anyone else was hoping to do this, it doesn't work for Rawl k'ha level.

Which brings us back to your question from almost a year ago Aelthwyn - WHY?!?!?!

This issue for you, @retrokat , is most likely that you never did go to Coldharbour and do the Groundskeeper's quest called "The Hollow City." Completion of that quest is required before you actually get tier 5 rewards and deliver writs to the Hollow City. I know it's not well-documented most places, but it is the fact and most people who haven't done it don't realize why they never deliver there and their requests/rewards never progress with that skill point.

@Tevalaur - Why can I deliver 4 writs to Rawl k'ha but not the 5th and 6th? How does that have anything to do with Hollow City?

After Rawl'kha the next delivery location is The Hollow City, that's how it ties in. And since some crafts have fewer passive points they skip over some locations, such as Provisioning writs skip over Rawl'kha.

It would be great if they'd remove the alchemy and provisioning delivery boxes at Rawl k'ha and equivalent delivery locations then :/

PS thanks for the help. I will try to get one of my alts to Hollow City level writs in the hope that my many missing purple recipes from lvl 50 - CP 0-100 are given out there.

I agree - if you can never deliver alchemy and provisioning writs there, why are there boxes for them? EDIT - since there are boxes there, why not just let those who haven't yet done Coldharbour drop off Tier 5 writs in The Rift, etc. until they've completed Coldharbour?

It is interesting to note that if you spec an alt for top tier writs, which turn in at Craglorn, you don't have to worry about completing any of Coldharbour on that alt. They can go directly to Craglorn and turn in their top tier Alchemy and Provisioning writs.

It's good to know, however, that if I wanted to complete Tier 5 provisioning writs, i'll have to get them to Coldharbour and talk to the groundskeeper first.

I don't think claims that you need to finish "Hollow City" quest to complete higher level writs are true. My level 37 Orc crafter is doing writs in Craglorn right now - never having visited Coldharbor on this character. I took the cart from Mournhold (I'm EP) to travel here. My vets are CP 300 and have competed main story.

To do the Coldharbour delivery writs, it is true. To do the ones in Craglorn, it is not. I never said "higher level" -- I said the ones that deliver IN Coldharbour.

edit: i.e. As you and others know, you can put more points into the passive to get to the writs delivering in Craglorn without ever having delivered a writ to Coldharbour.
