Their functionality is the same as the ones in the crown store now, they just have a different look.
Don't know when they're coming out, though.

This is correct. The "premium" component is purely cosmetic - they do also have unique VO, but functionality-wise they are the same as the current portable banker and merchant.

@Beardimus they could still technically go back on that and give them better features, however I think they might be aware of the anger and uproar that would cause.

If they ever release a better version they would effectively be making two expensive items many people purchased entirely redundant by offering a superior version.

The only way I could see them making them have "premium" features is to maybe make it an ESO+ perk. That way everyone has the same basic access but ESO+ works as the upgrade to that.

Does everyone get them (what I gather from this post)

Do you already need em and these premium features just allow us to change what they sound and look like? (what I gather from the guy who quoted Jessica)

From my understanding reading back on old threads, these will just be exactly as we have now but with new voices and better looks.

These are the datamined pictures from the thread Jessica commented in.

It does seem that you would need to buy these again if you old the current ones and wanted the new ones. As they're being sold a "premium" expect a jacked up price "because marketing".

I'm aware they are no different than current ones, just I got enough Crowns to get them both. I have the Redguard woman and I'd like something else than an Ash Licker to be my banker, an Imperial banker is way more fitting, and human

I hated the Redguard and Dunmer since the start, Banker should have been Breton ( anyone with a potato between their eyes would have known that) and the Merchant could remain a Redguard or Imperial (but would have preferred a male), leaning towards Imperial because they are colonisers.

Yes would be nice if they allowed us to pick from genders/races. Elder Scrolls games were always about racism and it felt very poor to limit our choices in one of few NPCs you can place in your house or partner up in your adventures. Can you imagine an Argonian with a Dunmer banker? Well I suppose they could have a taste at slavery but...just NO!

I hope these come soon. Seeing 5 or more tythis's (tythisi?) Following around different players is just weird, so some variety would be appreciated.

My eso wishlist includes the ability to change the appearance (costume, hat, personality) of assistants.

Meh...certainly wouldn't pay more money for either of the "premium" versions posted here. Same price, then maybe I'd pick the alternate merchant, since I'm not that thrilled with the current choice.

As for the banker...I am perfectly pleased with my Dunmer banker, in Velothi Reverie, where my Dunmer main resides.

My guess is that these won't be for direct sale. They'll be crown crate items.

That being the case they wouldn't add them to crates until they felt they'd exhausted demand for the existing 2 assistants, which won't happen until after their first post Homestead launch crown pack sale which is now on.

So I would expect to see these premium assistants in the next crown crate season.

I agree that it's weird. Like a clone invasion. I also would like to be able to customize them, but that could have serious performance implications.

Presently all non-combat pets (which these are) would be static graphic elements which means the game only has to communicate to other players that you have pet no. 00851 following you. If they added customisation then it would need to communicate all that extra customisation info to all of those players and their machines would have to take that info and put it all together.

That could have huge implications in towns where there are swarms of players with these followers, but a relatively negligible effect in player houses and when out adventuring.

This is a great idea. Yes, the performance probably would suffer, one of each race should be good enough. Also they need more NPCs available for decorations, like guards, maids, wenches, stewards, concumbines, etc.

I've been thinking it and they could actually implement this without the performance issues if they just change the assistants slightly. Presently players run around with them out simply because it takes effort (albeit minimal) to dismiss them.

Change their functionality so that they don't move and also automatically despawn after 30-60 seconds of no players interacting with them and that would mean far fewer banker and merchant assistants active in the game at any point in time.

This alone would make the game seem less clonetastic and would also give them some room to implement assistant customisation with greatly reduced impact on performance.
