Ancestor Silk Writs

BRCOURTN
BRCOURTN
✭✭✭✭✭
On Xbox One ancestor silk is decently rare. While doing writs, I've started skipping these and only doing the days that I can get the leather writs. I have 2-4K of every other CP 160 mat, but I seem to run out of these regularly when keeping up with writs. So does anyone else skip those days on your clothier writ? I'll add some more options for people who don't have this problem at all (it could just be me).

I used to skip the rubedo leather one when it came up back when you would get rewarded with rubedo from surveys. Currently sitting on about 1.5-2k of all top level crafting materials except ruby ash.

I get far more clothier surveys than blacksmithing or woodworking, but I tend to run out of one type of mat or another every so often. PC/NA.

It really seems crazy to me. If anything, there should be more of these because you do split the writs. It's not really like anyone wears crafted armor anymore either. The only reason I bring it up is because even the prices for stacks of silk on Xbox are ridiculous compared to other stacks of mats.

    over twice the pc price.
I find that the surveys makes up for a lot of it, the real go is then you have to craft cp160 gear.
Everything drop rubedo leather so I plenty of it you also see that the stores are overflowing with leather.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

Even if it is that expensive, how much is needed for one writ? The rewards for writs are really good right now. While ancestor silk is cheaper on PC, I too have shortages at times. But the writs are paying for themselves and my ancestor silk inventory is going up, not down.

Yeah one writ isn't too bad. On my main, I'll do it no matter what for the chance at a master writ, but I do 5 characters worth of writs every day. That's over 150 per day, which can burn through a bunch quickly.

It is unwise to not do any writs right now. Especially with the event going on. You have a chance for master writ and the extra loot box plus the gold upgrade mats.

I have never not run out of ancestor silk or any other 160 cp mat for quite some time, progeny awhile before one Tamriel dropped was the last time I remember being low on any mat.

Not sure if you played when the highest tier writ would ask you for roughly 6 cp 160 items, now those were expensive writs considering the price for mats were extremely high at the time.

Right now though all the mats are everywhere especially since they added those new mats which drop from old mat nodes requiring people to farm all the mats.

Considering dreugh wax price is quite low it might actually be worth skipping

    BUT

200 silk on ps4 can be around 10k
200 silk will get you around 4-5 writs and probably at least 2 dreugh wax and maybe some housing writs depending on your luck...

its a bit close but i think at this stage its personal preference.

Found the same, one option is to have alts with no crafting skills do writs, survey maps is common drops and give lots of mats. Now collect the writs with the alt and it would be max level mats:)

It's a matter of farming or buying the matts. If I understand correctly since this started out about a motif and ended with writs.

On one hand, if you don't run Clothier writs, you won't get Clothier surveys, and you'll never catch up to your other crafts' supplies. On the other hand, RNG is a cruel master, and you may find yourself getting no Clothier writs. I had a month where things got really out of whack for exactly this reason.

One great thing about the Anniversary event is that I'm running writs on all characters, even those with underleveled crafting. Those Flax and Fell Leather writs are dropping surveys that are headed straight into the inventories of my maxed crafters.

Does having hide in surveys mean less ancestor silk nodes than before? know the nodes have more units in them now, but it would mean a lower return compared to metals.

Yes, you get less out of nodes from surveys, but then again, you don't have to do the writs every day because sometimes they're leather writs. I guess what I want to know is why they're so much more expensive in traders than other mats on Xbox One. They shouldn't be any more rare than other mats, but it really seems like they are. I run low constantly, and I don't want to buy more because they're so damn expensive.

I don't have a problem with silk. I play on PC with Harvest Map addon, so I have some help locating nodes. I do notice that ancient silk nodes are a little harder to notice than other cloth nodes. I also break down ALL ancient silk pieces to gather mats. I regularly go on farming runs during off hours to gather crafting mats.

Even though the voting option sounds kind of... snide, I really haven't heard of anyone having this issue, OP. (and I'm really not being snide, just read my whole post :))

I play on Xbox One NA (btw).

Ancestor Silk isn't that rare IMO. When I need to farm it, I go to one of the starting "baby's-first-zone" areas (like Bleakrock Isle for the Ebonheart Pact), and the material nodes are (quite literally) everywhere. This allows me to restock on any crafting mat that I'm short on, and get a wealth of other materials as well.

Just spend an hour or two on one of those three starting areas, make a good "farming circle route", and you should have more mats than you know what to do with.

This also has the side effect of giving me TONS of Housing special crafting mats (Bast, Regulus, etc.), and the starting islands seem to have a bit higher drop chance to go along with the more readily available crafting mat nodes.

I do a farming run about once per week, and spend only 2-3 hours farming, and I haven't had to skip a writ in... I don't even remember the last time I had to skip a writ. After spending those 2-3 hours on my farming circle, I generally teleport off the island with about 1000 pieces of raw materials for each of the Clothing (including Rubedo Leather Scraps from killing the abundance of wolves), Blacksmithing, and Woodworking crafting skills, and a wealth of runes for Enchanting.

Give those starting islands a try, OP. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

I definitely have all the farming passives and what not. I just don't see why it's so expensive if it's not rare at all. and I don't mean rare in the sense that you can't find any. I just mean rare in the sense that it's less abundant than any other mat for myself. I honestly never pass up an ancestor silk node, while I will pass up pretty much any other node if I'm busy doing other things (other than columbine).

Nope, I dont skip them, but I do buy silk in bulk once in a while. I do max level writs on anywhere from 6-9 toons a day. That generally involves buying Silk, Rubedite and Nirnroot every few weeks.

Funny thing is that I used to skip the leather writs. Now I have more leather than I know what to do with.

I don't willingly skip the clothier writs - I just don't have enough in stock. I only complete them on my 9 trait crafter, so I have maximum chance of getting Master Clothier writs. Other max level crafters end up skipping.

By the way - how do you "skip" the writs requiring Ancestor Silk and get to the writ requiring Rubedo Leather? If I abandon the writ quest (requiring silk), and then pick up the quest again, it just requires Silk again.

Do I need to abandon the silk quest (say on a Tuesday), and then pick up the quest again the next day (Wednesday)?
