vMA: Is the Crematorial Guard's lingering DoT a bug or a feature?

I was just having a conversation with someone about the last boss in vMA. They were convinced that the DoT (dotn remember what its called) left on the character after being hit by flame breath (if you don't kill the croc you'll probably die to the DoT when you go upstairs) is a bug, but I thought it was a secondary DoT that is applied after leaving the flame breath cone that stays there until being purged, or until the daedroth dies.

Does anyone know who is actually right on this one, i'm just interested to know because if it is a bug then its pretty bad that its still in the game after all this time, and I remember when I was learning vMA I thought almost everything was a bug because I felt like the game was screwing me over xD

    This is a feature, not a bug. It's intended that we kill the Crematorial Guard before going upstairs. Not doing so is supposed to leave you at a serious disadvantage. The alternative is to burn the boss to 70% or lower before he spawns it, then you don't have to deal with it at all.

    Yeah that's what I thought. I think I managed to get him straight to 70% once or twice, but I play stamina so my dps is a bit meh in general atm.
    I can understand this though, it would be much easier if you could just ignore the daedroths (probably too easy, I seem to remember most of my deaths in that fight were related to daedroths in some way).

    Not to be that guy, but I think it's easier to do the 70% nuke on stamina than it is on magic. Certainly the best way to handle that fight is to nuke him before he has a chance to port. If you post some more detail about your class/build, we might be able to give you some pointers on bursting him down.
