Any solutions to mapping keys on keyboard for this game?

Maybe I'm the only one with this problem, but I play with the standard mapping done for keys, and there are a lot of times where I just have a hard time in combat. It comes from just not being comfortable with 1-5 as my combat abilities. I'm constantly hitting the wrong key because my mind is not set to jump on those keys quickly during a fight.

Anyone have any alternative methods they use that might be useful to someone thinking about this sort of situation? I bought a gamepad from logitech that I thought would be useful, but the keys are all so compacted together that it's even more confusing when it comes to responding during combat, which kind of brought me back to the keyboard.
Clueless, but willing to learn.

    In GW2, I use A,Q,W,R, and T for my weapon skills 1-5. That means that I use E, S, D, and F for my movement keys. You could try that out. Of course, that means that you would have to move some of the other keybinds. It works real well for me, in GW2.

    I don't bother in this game because I have a gaming mouse, and I assign keys 1-5 to the mouse.

    I've remapped quick bar abilities to 1234E, as the only one I found hard to reach was the 5. Ultimate is still R, though.

    I've also seen some people in the past change 1->Q, though I didn't not find that necessary myself.

    Of course after that change I had to remap several more keys... mainly E->F, so I activate/interact with F.

    Also I use Q to jump and SPACE to roll-dodge.

    And the old function for F (interact with player), I moved to F1... un-mapping the 'Game Help' function completely in the process.

    (((I also un-mapped the Crown Store menu function completely... but for other reasons >:) And I reused the key later for an addon function :) )))

    Weapon bar switch is TAB for me, and interrupt/bash is X. Synergy use is C and potion use is V.

    I also have bound some functions to extra mouse buttons: Wheel click is Synergy use, Wheel up/down is weapon change, and interrupt is bound to a side button.

    EDIT: better paragraph separation

    The only key I reassigned was my Ultimate, which I reassigned to T from R. It's only one key over from R, and has prevented me from triggering my Ultimate accidentally.

    Cool to see others using numpad as well!

    I am right handed but doing exactly this. I use the mouse with my left hand to go easy on years of mouse work with the right hand. You dont need to be left handed to make this work.

    The numpad is outstanding for keymapping in ESO and other RPG for me. The INS - HOME - Page Down, etc, works as weapon swap, ultimate, drink potion, talk junk in zonechat, etc.

    Try it. It takes a few days for your left hand to press the correct mouse button, but it comes to you.

    I have remapped the ultimate to 6 as I kept hitting R instead of E at the wrong times. I also find 1-5 very difficult, so I caved in and bought a gaming mouse with keys on the side, then mapped 1-5 onto those so I am using my right thumb to press them. The middle mouse key is used for weapon swapping. I've found this works better than using my left hand on the keyboard as I am right handed. It's taken a bit to get used to it, but now it works well and I wouldn't go back to only using the keyboard.

    Gaming mouse here too, i however use the mouse wheel tilt left / right to switch between front / back bar making it imposible to double switch.
    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    I moved it to 6. I don't like it when combat keys and non-combat keys overlap. I am less likely to accidentally throw it out instead of interacting with something.

    I use a G13 so I don't have to stretch to get to the ultimate.

    QWERT for abilities 1-5

    Space = forward / V = back / S = left / D = right

    F = get
    A = toggle run/walk
    X = sneak
    C = mount
    G = control pet
    3 = quick slot

    Mouse with extra buttons = attack, block jump, ultimate, stow weapon, synergy, weapon swap.

    My old fingers still struggle a bit and I am always considering refinements but the above works better for me than default.

    I agree with the basic problem that keys 1-5 are too far away to use smoothly while trying to move and fight.

    I have extra buttons on my mouse so I keep ultimate and weapon swap there. Works great
