Why is it a flaw? Guild traders are not free.
In all the other MMOs I've played, I've never had to pay to auction stuff off. Also, when auctioning stuff in ESO, a portion of your profit is already skimmed (taxed) from the actual sale price. I'm not sure if this money just vanishes or if it is put back into the guild. If it's not put back into the guild, it should be. If it is put back in the guild, then what are guild fees for?
I know, but no one should have to pay weekly or monthly fees just to auction stuff off. Also, most guilds over charge for the vendors. It's a pointless money pit. A better system needs to be put into place if you ask me.
I agree. It's one of the reasons I don't have a guildI generally don't sell anything in games even with a 'proper' auction house/trade broker. I buy occasionally but rarely if ever, sell.
So I feel like why should I pay fees to a guild?
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be in a guild but I'm not paying you to have the pleasure of my company
The solution is:
Tavern barkeepers and various merchants. Do this:
Travel to any tavern or specific merchant throughout Tamriel. Post what you want to buy and what you want to sell along with a price. The price to post will be determined by how "busy" it is and also by how "busy" you are as a player.
More people posting WTB / WTS, the price goes up for that merchant. If you as a player, post more than X buys or sells, then your fee goes up; say 150 buys and 150 sells (just like being in 5 guilds).
Do this and everyone can post whatever they want, anywhere, free from guild bidding nuisance and fat cat guild masters. The gold sink will still happily chug along.
Post where you want and when you want.
Friend: Emily I think they kicked me from the trading guild again.
me: What?
Friend: Yes, I logged in to pay the dues and I don't see the trading guild
me: Are you freaking kidding me? They just invited you back.
Friend: I know , and the thing is I I sold over 10k worth of worms when I was gone

Right?
I'm not sure what your trying to say.
However, as a guild leader I try my best to bring like minded people together. Just for an example, my Friendly Dungeon Runners guild is one of the best guilds on PC for running group content. Want to know why? It is filled with friendly players that work together. In the beginning I sure didn't do pledges 10 times a day because I had some motive to rip people off.
My trading guild "Blackwaters Merchant" was created for the people of Blackwater Blade campaign. My goal was to bring players from all alliances together and have one location where we can buy and sell PvP rewards ( reducing rng ) and other items to gear our characters.
I understand there are some corrupted leaders out there, but we are not all like that. If for some reason I started charging a fee or having raffles for the trading guild it will not be to rip anyone off. The money would be used to hire a trader.
Also to answer your question, stockholders buy shares of a company but are not guaranteed dividends. Some stockholders win big, and some lose everything.
I was just busting peoples balls. I don't ever, well nearly ever, buy or sell anything in any MMO I have ever played so I don't have a dog in this fight so to speak.
I was in every closed and open beta and played after launch until we got the guild traders and this issue has been going on since then and the AH argument since CBT forums. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment for even reading these same issues again and again.
The issue really isn't that the system in ESO is bad. It's not. It's actually a brilliant idea IMO (and I am by no means a 'fatcat, my highest ever bankroll being 500k-ish, and I also think it could use a lot of help to make it great, but that's for a different thread.)
The issue is that it is different, and it makes people have to put in a little effort to make it work for them. No more lazily listing things in an auction house and refreshing your crap listings every 30 days because your 6 common widgets didn't move.
With this system you have to sell things with value, and you have to contribute more than just listing things to stay afloat. People hate it because OMG IT's NOT LIKE WOW/WOWCLONENAMEHERE, and it's compounded by the fact that some features (which would probably work the same way if it was a global AH) are lacking in functionality (a robust search for example)
Experiences like this really make me appreciate my guildsvamp_emily wrote: »Some guilds are just wrong.

Now keep in mine, my friend paid the guild 3 weeks in a row. 5k raffle to help get a good spot. 10k to help with a guild trader, and then last week he paid 10k and got booted 2 days later for being so called "inactive".
I left the guild because I thought it was wrong treating my friend like that. They contacted me and said sorry they would make it up to us. We re-joined and then they kick him again. EVEN THOUGH he sold at least 10k worth of items in the guild. How is that being inactive? Not logging on for 5 days, paying club dues and selling stuff while he is away is inactive? Sorry he can't play 7 days a week like some of us. He plays Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes Sundays.
I'm in no hurry but my friend and I are now looking for a new trading guild (PC/NA) with a great location and we don't mind helping paying for a guild trader.
vamp_emily wrote: »Anyone that is complaining about guild fees, I challenge you to start a trading guild and then never charge any members a fee, and do not hold any raffles. Then come back and tell me how your challenge went. Did you sell anything, did you pay for the guild trader?
I recently started a trading guild and it is frustrating. You have members emailing all the time asking "Why didn't we get a trader?", "When are we getting a trader?" or "Why am i not selling anything?".
I had 1 member in the beginning that was generous to donate 100,000g to the guild. Since then I have donated a little over 200,000g. Right now we have close to 350,000 gold sitting in the bank. Will we get a trader next week? I don't know, even if we do it will more than likely be a place that will not cover the cost of the trader.
To me the fee is what I call "The cost of doing business". I don't mind paying 10k each week in a trading guild I am in. We have a good location, and things seem to sell. Sometimes one item I put up for sell will cover the guild fee.
When I see what some GM withdraw as money from bank chests, I think to myself that fees are not just used to buy the merchant's location but also and especially that they make money on our backs .
Seriously, every guild with access to a guild vendor charges fees. I don't blame the players for this though, it's simply a design flaw on the dev's part - One that needs to be fixed IMO.

Far from true. I personally have no guilds that charge fees. I do have guilds that have mandatory sales quotas and there is an option of donating (via raffle tickets) if you don't meet that quota. But the quota is always reasonable - my Rawl'kha guild asks for 5k weekly sales for example. Easily done, in that location, and anyone who isn't making that much has no need at all for a trader in a popular zone.
That said, there are loads of guilds with no quotas at all in which you can still do well with sales. My guild in Daggerfall has no requirements and I make plenty there every week. So if you don't like guilds that have such rules - which, by the way, they have to have because they are paying so much to retain those spots weekly and the taxes they get from the sales is a negligible amount - then just join one that doesn't have them. Simple.

With how donations are kept track of for 500 members, I don't blame them for kicking your friend if he/she was multiple days late and in the unpaid rank. What some people don't realize is the time it requires to manage 500 people and the time it takes to make contact at least once when they fall into the unpaid rank. If they don't care enough about the trader or its well being to keep up with their support, why should the guild carry dead weight for weeks?
The fact that probably most of the playerbase can't even participate in the system(there is like what? 150 traders per platform? and 75% of them barely see traffic compared to the other 25%) plus the dependency on addons to make it somewhat decent,(seriously I pity console users without acces to AGS and MM/TTC) makes me wonder why ZOS hasn't added some sort of auction house already.
How great are we talking?vamp_emily wrote: »Some guilds are just wrong.
