Some advice for a Templar

So I have played for a long time as a healer and had gotten pretty good at it but have decided to make a new character that is still a Templar but is more dps but can do a little healing or tanking if need be. I already decided on mace and shield and aedric spear as my primary focuses (roleplaying/just like them more).

I have been debating though on which armor to use and how to best distribute my attributes and CP. I don't really care about min/maxing that much but I want to be able to primarily solo pve and be useful in group dungeons. Having only ever played as a healer, never done any Veteran dungeons, and don't really plan on joining a guild (unless its more of a roleplaying guild) I would really appreciate some advice on how to succeed as much as possible with this build.

Bump - I would like the same advice! I'm just finishing levelling off my first magplar (8th character though! I now have 1 mag and 1 stam for every class!).

I'd love some feedback on my build idea, which seems pretty similar to what the OP is asking for - a character that can do dps solo and heal in group content.

5 body pieces spell power cure (it's pretty useful solo, and is great in groups)
2 pieces valkyn skoria (blazing spear, that purge aura, jabs and radiant oppression are all dots and the main source of damage, so its some extra dps procced from the normal rotation.
3 jewellery from the soulshine set (If I ever get any spell power cure jewellery I will swap it in and put on chest/legs of the soulshine set for better resistance and more max mag)

bar 1 - resto staff - buff bar and group heals bar. Resto staff is from the soulshine set, so 4 pieces are worn on this bar.
bar 2 Either dual wield or 1 hand and shield, from the soulshine set so the 5 piece bonus is active giving +440 damage to channelled abilities. Obviously jabs, radiant oppression and dark flare are on this bar, and these do the majority of the damage although you will also use the other dots mentioned above as well. Probably using the soul assault ultimate on this bar.

I've partly chosen this build because I have the gear already, but if anyone has any feedback I will gratefully consider a fresh gear grind.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

SoulShine jewelry is only in healthy I believe. (If its in arcane ignore me) If you're fine with losing the max magicka and having more health then its fine. You could run Spell power jewelry with 2 piece body and 3 piece of SS on your body with the 2 Weapons you'd have. As long as you have 2 Heavy Valkyn pieces you'd have 5 heavy 2 Light. This would make you more on the support/Healing Side but you wouldn't lose that much damage from your original setup bc you'd get max magicka from your rings and neck. Just my opinion though.

It is a heavy set. Only healthy jewelry, which is not so bad, you can use the max health/max magic/magic recovery food to great effect with them.

So my advice is if you dont intend to do anything harder then normal dungeons, you are fine.

Greetings fellow Magplar! Here are a few options that I have used alot for solo pve and pvp and group content:

    1) 5 Julianos, 5 Burning Spellweave, 2 Grothdar, Destro staff backbar( light or Hvy Julianos) in light you will be near BIS albeit but squishy.

    2) 5 StromKnight or 5 Thunderbug, 2 Grothdar, and 5 Burning Spell weave, destro backbar. Just a fun build with a ton of lightnig and fire everywhere.

    3) 5 Julianos, 3 willpower, 2 grothdarr, 2 turogs pact, destro backbar. Easily attainable thru crafting and cheaper. Go hvy Julianos

    4) 5 Kagernacs Hope, 5 Burning Spell weave, 2 grothdar, destro or resto backbar. (light or hvy) Kags is all around good on templars.

With any solo or group pve or pvp content as a dps you want all attributes in magicka, and arcane accessories. To help sustain run either radient aura(be carful you will aggro everthing in a 28m distance, dont use in the sewers unless you have a death wish), or Elemental Drain(puts a large armor debuff on one enemy, great for boss fights). Combo that with channeled focus for 1600 mag recov or 800/sec. If you still have sustain issues, enchant one accessory for recov or reduced cost. Other then that all other accessories should be spell dmg.

    May Stendarr Bless you,

tank is in heavy armor and cannot heal very well.
healer need to be in light armor to heal effectively.

healer skills scale on max magicka. no it is not just that more magicka letting you cast Breath of Life more often. it is also that, the amount of health healed by Breath of Life is based on your maximum magicka.

and as tank, you need stamina to block, to interrupt boss's channeled attack, to break free from fear/stun/knockdown.

but yes, it is possible to heal and tank at the same time. but if you want to do that, you need to learn the game mechanics well, and you must min max.

if you don't want to min max, just wear all light armor, use Spell Cure Power, and spam Rapid Healing and Combat Prayer.

As a magplar who tried almost everything

No. 1 is probably the best way to go dmg/healing/tank wise.

No. 2 with both storm knights and thunderbug and grothdarr is a really fun build.. Shock/flame and spear damage all over the place.. You should definitely try this out..

Check my video with those proc sets

Lol, while I am glad that the other guy has gotten some useful suggestions and they have been insightful for my own reference. I am personally focusing my build to be more stamina with magicka more as a defense tool (sun shield and some basic healing).

I figured that medium armor would probably be the better focus as it boosts some damage and helps with stamina recovery as I have already found that aedric spear abilities and my melee abilities can drain stamina pretty quick if I don't pay attention.

if you plan to tank, it's better to start with heavy armor first.

stamina templar can still heal pretty well since we still have Major Mending buff from extended ritual, but Breath of Life and Rapid Regeneration will be far weaker, so don't queue as healer. and as a stamina character, the best heal skill would be Vigor, you have to spend a few hours in pvp to get it.
