Sense of character progression

jerseylocalbandb14_ESO
When does it really start?

I mean, I'm only lv29 now and I get excited each time I get a new skill unlocked or an item drops in a dungeon, but it seems like my level of relative power stays the same. I could take on groups of 3 at lv5 and can take on the same groups of 3 at 29 with blue/purple gear. I can still solo the bosses in delves and get my butt kicked by world bosses.

I like the level scaling, but do you ever feel more powerful? Does that start at the CP levels?

Nope bosses and enemies scale to your level so you'll never truly feel progression. You'll actually feel weaker the higher level you get. ( I know still sounds strange to me too) I'm 600cp+ btw

It does. But to be frank it starts imho around 300+ cp when i felt the real difference. Granted i dont like the new system and i would much prefer it to be done like in gw2 so i might be biased.

    Hmmm.

That sounds like the opposite of the MMO treadmill... you do harder things to get better gear to then tackle even harder things.

Maybe that's the charm that some people like about this game. That's kind of a bummer to me, though.

Oh, well. I'll enjoy it while it lasts

It all depends on how you level your skills and what you're using.

Your skills are leveling as you go as well - level 1 unmorphed skill is weaker than a level 4 unmorphed skill - then you have 4 levels of progression after you morph it.

The progression is subtle - theres never really an "OMG just got XYZ weapon and now Im a GOD "... moment. However you'll notice that something like an overland boss or a normal dungeon might pose a challenge to you and your 4 man group at level 25 ... but you'll come back around to it at CP 115 and find yourself smashing it solo. It just sort of happens. But at the higher levels it's all about your gear, how you leveled your skills and built your character, your proficiency with those skills, and how you allocate your CP after level 50.

You might have a player A at CP600 and player B at CP430 ... both with the same exact gear and skills - but player B smashes group content solo, and player A struggles with seemingly simple encounters. The difference is build and skill.

You will get the progression feeling when you hit CP 160 and start getting proper items . I can explain like this . When DDs in my group had 200-300 CP , 35k DPS was godlike . It was considered insane damage . Now , 35k is garbage . This has lots to do with CP . Of course , new sets and buffs to skills made a huge difference as well but I can assure you , you will have the same feeling . Just continue leveling . You didn't even start yet .

It depends on how you define "progression". Is there ever a point where things go from "omg I'm dying every ten seconds" to "I am become death, destroyer of worlds"? Not that I've ever seen. The difficulty curve has been flattened significantly since they introduced level scaling.

For me, "progression" has been that sense of getting new abilities and new ways to tackle content. And that varied by character.

I remember while leveling a Magblade I solo'd Spindleclutch I at level 22, and I felt like a friggin' GOD. But that same character - at level 40 - felt increasingly stale, as I was essentially using the same skills I had been using at level 22, and they just weren't delivering like they used to.

On the contrary, my MagSorc feels very different at level 50 than she did at level 20. As I got new higher-tier skills I shifted the way I played, and I definitely feel more powerful even though mobs were the same toughness.
You've played with the best... now play with the rest!
