For some quests the NPC will give you their sword shields and such and those are okay…but some others, Well let's just say they treat you like you have a fetish or something.
(EP questline spoiler)

After I save Skald King from poison the dude took off his pants and gave it to me…like wth why do i want your pants dude

You get Ayrenn's greaves after one quest for her.

Emeric just hands out rings and generic "champion of daggerfall" types of items.

There are times when it costs way more to achieve a reward than the reward is worth, other times you get some ridiculously paltry prize for defeating a who freaking army of undead or monsters. There seems no real rhyme nor reason at times to what reward goes with what Quest.

Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.

The ones that bother me are the ones where the quest NPC is all, 'oh, I'm broke and destitute, thank you for helping me brave hero, now take as your reward enough gold to feed me for a week.' Where are they getting this money if they're poor? Why are they giving it to me instead of paying off their debts/buying medicine like they said they needed to?

This quest I seem to recall he specifically said those weren't actually his pants.

We are a great army of Nords/Argonian/kajitti/orcs/et al, now go in there and destroy our enemy, little person we only just met, who we know nothing about but might have heard of somewhere in a tavern ! The as your mighty heroism deserves we will give you a small sum, the result of a whip-round we had while we waited out here listening to your agonised yells of pain as you die over and over again.
Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.

I wouldn't say it's a weird reward but I was seriously scratching my head back in the day when I completed the last quest for Caldwell's gold and what I recieved for a reward.

No spoiler for those who haven't done it, but I was certainly like "wtf!!!".

Quest rewards for the main/zone story are very lackluster and a big reasons why it's so dreadful to play multiple characters. I realize the thread's aim is not about that, but it would be nice if rewards were desirable.

Yeah that bothers me too. Sometimes it just makes no sense - they could easily have bought whatever they were after with the money they give me as a reward. Other times it makes me feel guilty because over the course of the quest it became clear they had almost nothing and then they're giving me a reward that must be a significant chunk of whatever wealth they do have but isn't a big deal for me. It almost makes me miss the option some games have where you can refuse the reward, sometimes in return for a different one like reputation points.

(Or it makes me wish for something like Guild Wars 2's karma system - in practice it's just another currency but the way it works in lore is that you help people out and you may not be rewarded by them directly, although you usually get a few coins too, but then later on someone who is aware of your good deeds and is in a position to reward you will give you something in return for it - for example a lot of the race/faction equipment is bought with karma.)

    I think they're a pack of liars.

There's a solo quest in north-west Craglorn (I forget its name). It's OK but its reward? A purple enchantment.
