I played pen & paper or CRPG games, early MMORPG's, and more recent MMORPG's (i.e. WoW or later).
Started off really with Meridian 59 but never stick with it to long, Pen & Paper RPers since -94 and still on it.

as for MMORPG, never tried WOW first type of MMORPG really was Guild Wars 1 and then of to EVE Online since 2005.

Oh I did a bit of MUD to

More lastly I tend to stick with non WOW type of MMORPG like EVE Online, Fallen Earth, Secret World. Tested Star Trek Online could have been a good game.

I seldom played pen and paper as I didn't have any friends that were interested in it, but that didn't stop me from collecting many guides and campaign books from a variety of games (D&D, GURPS, Call of Cthulhu, etc). I enjoyed learning the lore and reading about the worlds more than anything.

Played many PC games when I was young in the 80s, but fell off and never got a good gaming rig when i got older, so I played mostly console games. I missed out the whole original MMORPG craze in the early-mid 2000s, including WoW's glory days.

A friend talked me into trying another MMORPG in 2013 and I've been hooked on MMORPGs since. I've tried out most of the modern ones, played a few of them regularly, but ESO is my main game since launch, although I take extended breaks from time to time.

I got into MMORPGS's with EverQuest ruins of Kunark. I loved EverQuest, i was younger then and it was my first MMO but i liked how it was a challenge and you could lose your gear if someone killed you and would have to do corpse runs. i liked the challenge and that you actually had to be careful with what you did. The world just seemed more alive.

My second favorite was Star Wars Galaxies although it was short lived until they ruined it by adding in the level system. but before then it was amazing!

and of course i played WoW and i liked it during beta and the first year or two raiding cities and world PvP. i thought it was downhill after battlegrounds came and i was not excited for them. which is funny because i cant wait for BGs on ESO. but there is no world PvP here and its a much different game.

I am not an MMO person but I thought I'd give this a try.

I am a member of a univeristy role playing club but it has spread into board and card games (specifically magic the gathering which I play a lot of). So I actually talk about pen and paper role playing games more than I play them.

WoW, essentially stole all my friends when I was an undergrad at uni and I have never forgiven it... or basically blizzard in general.

I am a serial genre hopper so not being a MMO person doesn't mean much. I am rather anti WoW though.
I have jumped from CoD4 to Fallout3 to CoDMW2 to Fallout NV to league of legends (still playing) to Skyrim... Magic the gathering and league.... and now ESO now it is no longer Sub only.

For the sake of not getting this thread closed: My history relates to ESO because I get nostalgic for MMOs from time to time. I think it also fit my style of gameplay at the time when I started and had some appeal for me as a follow-up to finishing Skyrim.

Surprisingly I don't typically like medieval fantasy style games and media at all. However I found that I really liked the lore of TES games. And while Skyrim tops ESO easily in areas like vastness and atmosphere (I feel more like I'm there), ESO has some strengths that Skyrim lacked for me. The characters and events are a little more alive for me than Skyrim was and have more personality.

Paired with some things I actually enjoyed about MMOs it was a good deal. I've played two major titles and a lot of free MMOs just to pass time with friends. I like the goals that MMOs establish as I move along. And single player games can sometimes be really linear. They also make for good co-op opportunities.

I still treat ESO like a single player game, it makes it easier not to get addicted when I'm a busy person, but it's nice to tag team with a stranger now and then or help newbies out. I like that social aspect.

    I played early MMORPG's (e.g. MUD's, UO, EQ).
Played dungeons and dragons on paper a couple times but was never really into it.

My gaming started with warcraft: orcs and humans, starcraft, command and conquer, age of empires, diablo, and other similar games. Always been a fan of strategy games with rpg elements.

As far, ad MMO's, pretty much started with early starwars: galaxies. Went from there to world if warcraft, star trek online, DC universe online, star wars: the old Republic, and then to here.

Looking only at MMOs I started wow in BC, did MC once back then (everyone was above 60 so it wasn't really a challenge, but it was still epic). I got into "real" raiding in wraith.

And after that I have tried to PvE in all wow expantions. In WoW I was a tank from late wraith until late MoP at which point I changed to a DPS, and in WoD I changed to healer since the spec I liked was changed to mainly be PvP and the other specs didn't fit my playstyle.

I got into ESO during WoD when I had gotten a litle tired of WoW. After that I have moved back and forth between many different games (not just MMOs), and now I am back to ESO and I am really exited for Morrowind since Warden seems like the perfect class for me.

Been gaming lifelong, since Pong came out in the 70s. Had Atari 2600. Had very early home PCs (Commodore 64, TRS 80, clunky old IBMs that ran on DOS and Basic). Started tabletop RPGing in 10th grade, and published a couple games through Chaosium. Now I'm exclusively console (PS4) at age 52, and gaming with my children. But ESO is my first MMO. I was mostly playing GTA Online since it came out until I got ESO in December. Now I'm not playing anything else. I even pre-ordered Horizon Zero Dawn and haven't touched it yet.

I got ESO because I loved Skyrim but finished it in 5 weeks and don't like to replay story games very much so ESO was a great next step. I prefer solo PvE but knowing the option to play with other people exists is very welcome. My only complaints about the game are the lag spikes and crashes, and then some of the chat is ugly. I think my main beef with the game is the few seconds delay after killing something before I can harvest a mat sitting right by the corpse. I've lost nodes to other players because of it, they'll wait until I've killed the mob then grab the node before I have the ability to.

Try World of Tanks? Can be a major grind...but good graphics and realistic play.

    Other.
My gaming background is best described as 'varied'.

My first computer, bought with my own money after what felt like years of saving up, was the BBC Micro. I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing Sabre Wulf, Wizadore and Elite. I loved that machine - such fond memories. Later on, I stumbled into the early city-building games like Caesar and Pharaoh. I built my first gaming PC to play Half Life and Thief, and I have been a PC gamer more or less ever since.

I've dabbled with pen and paper over the years, and the same applies to some MMOs, but i've never considered myself to be an MMO gamer. Oblivion's release got me hooked in a big way, and i've been a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series ever since. ESO appeals most not because it is an MMO, but because of the fictional world that has been created. Despite being a gamer for a few decades, I have a much bigger passion and interest in books, literature and story-telling in general. I see ESO more as a collection of stories to be told than a war to be fought. I'm less interested in PvP and Alliance battles, but fascinated by quests, lore, in-game dialogue and casually wandering Tamriel - usually of the beaten path - to see where I end up.
