Hi Devs,

Not sure if this is the best place to ask my request. Perhaps you can direct me to the proper place.

Recently we had a fellow player pass away in August. He was an avid ESO player since launch and played almost everyday. One of his favorite things to do in-game was fishing. His second favorite thing to do was post his Crab-Slaughter-Crane fish during trials whenever the raid leader asked for something much to our leader's dismay. It quickly became a signature event during our guild raids. Since his passing many of us have continued his tradition but would like to make a request in honor of his memory. If at all possible we would like to have this item, Crab-Slaughter-Crane, turned into a housing item with a readable plaque for our guild hall in honor of his memory. Again I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but I know there are many more in my guild that would like to know who or where to ask this so we could petition the developers.

Thanks for your time Devs we greatly appreciate it.

I'm against anything which isn't for individual homes.

This is because I worry for how this will be handled and how people will react to such things.

Of ZOS implemented a book people could have signed with names there could still be a number of issues.
Firstly this isn't something we could sign, or we'd have offensive bad disrespectful messages in no time.
Secondly if ZOS handles this and we send requests what stops people abusing the system for jokes. I have a some friends who haven't logged in for a long time but are very much alive, I could ask to have their names in it. Then what if we get caught, ZOS spends more time doing investigations to figure out of we should be punished.

The passing of anyone in a community is sad, but unless they were someone who ZOS choose (without request) to immortalise I don't believe it's wise.

Exactly this. Without passing judgement on the original suggestion, which I am sure was made with all the best intentions, if you post something on a public forum then by definition you are inviting debate and not everyone is going to agree with you.

OP should have put their request in a PM to Gina or Jess if they didn't want a discussion.

I don't think when they posted this they could, as you have to meet a points/posts threshold before you can send a PM.
    As per quote below.
Apparently having this post has increased a leveling system I didn't know was here and now allows me to message specific people, which I have done. Thank all of you who were helpful and courteous! Hopefully now @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_KaiSchober @ZOS_JessicaFolsom will also be in support of something like this for the community!

The player who requests a memorial must send them a Certificate of Death. Should it later come to light that the certificate was fake, the player who sent it to them can be held responsible.
That's a pretty demanding task for international gaming. I would have no idea how to get my hands on a death certificate from an EU country if a friend was from there, nor how to contact their family etc.

I know, and that's the idea. Think of it this way - how do you know that the person has died? You either saw it on Facebook, which means that you have a way to contact the deceased's relatives, or you had some other kind of contact with the deceased. That is the channel you'll use to get a copy of the cert.

It is give and take. The OP is the one who wants ZOS to honour his friend. Let's face it, to ZOS his friend is just another faceless client among millions. Any personal requests adds to their workload, whether it is for a humane cause or not. If they're willing to do it, I really don't think it is too much to ask the requestor to get a copy of the cert. The idea is to honour or respect a deceased friend. If you're not willing to go to the efforts of getting the cert, are you then really so keen on showing that respect?
Yeah, I understand where you're coming from but at the same time if we're adding all of these layers of protection to stop the abuse of a system, why not politely just say "sorry this isn't something we can do for you" or as previously sugested go with items which players can write their own memorials on.

It would be nice to have a Daedric/Aedra statue which can have the persons name displayed on it when interacted with, the stone tablet style info boxes like when you read the Mara shrine.

Then if some players wants to have their house with one saying "If you read this you're a moron" they can, but others who want lasting memorials can have a place to hold one for a friend.

How would Zos accommodate this without accommodating the rest of us?

Serious question and I've seen two pass away in the past year that I've played with and I expext there are others of us.

I had thought about speaking with Zos after the first one left us until I realized it wasn't an isolated incident and could also pose other issues as there is a certain element that have nefarious intentions.

Not trying to be negative about the OPs request. Just sharing the thoughts I had from a similar experience.

Whilst i appreciate it's not the sentiment behind your post, I don't think this sort of thing is ever intended to create a sort of one-upmanship. We've seen it in many games where players have been given some sort of token of remembrance, whilst other haven't. Other than the ones already mentioned, the one that sticks in my mind is the npc vault hunter in Borderlands 2.

If people don't ask, they don't get, so if you feel strongly enough that someone should be honoured in some shape or form, you can only ask. No one is more important than the next, we're all equal, but it's always nice to see the people who make these games a success being given a little in return even if it is after their passing.

I don't even know the guy but it seems a lot of people have wanted to get behind this idea, I am 100% for it and I hope the devs do look a this thread. I'm liking the idea of a hall of fame for the lost/fallen and I still think a name tagging option to objects would be the simplest and easiest idea to get in the game, of course you will need to be able to tag an item that works for you. (a fish) but you need to be able to display it.

I can see the problem with having individual objects for people, that crosses boundaries and would take too much time. I can also see how the *hall of fame* could be taken for granted, I think if you name ends up getting put up in there it would need to go through careful consideration and so many people to confirm that the name deserves to go up. (this could get complicated...)

However if the item is just for a guild who has lost a a close friend/relative then having named items would be the best idea that you could display or create a shrine in your home. This way your guild has agreed to it and its your own memories of that person, no need to take it through the whole community with the hall of fame.

name tagging items all the way:

    My condolences, first of all.

I would agree to an implementation of something like craftable plaques that could be customized to hold a name and perhaps a small phrase. Something general that can be used for anything and by anyone, to be placed at a home or guild hall.

I would disagree with a specific implementation regarding one specific player, as it would have no relevance to the community at large and it would make specific personal requests like this one a standard occurrence.
@Kay1 Don't be mad at him. Just pity him. How sad and alone he must be, to feel the need to come on here and spew his vitriol (...)

I beg to disagree here, though. I did not read any "vitriol" from raidentenshu_ESO, if that is who you are referring to. I did see him, however, giving his opinion and remaining respectful. He pointed out his concerns, whether or not anyone else agrees with them or sees it the same way.

Just because someone may have a form of expressing himself/herself that seems colder than what some other people would like or prefer, it does not mean that this person is being negative or purposefully disruptive.

That leads me to start thinking that perhaps OP doesn't actually want to honour his friend, perhaps OP just wants some kind of personal fame for doing this or getting it done officially.

I think you need to see beyond the OP's post, which actually WAS about them getting something for their guild.. We just took it further from there, since that always happen on a forum.. It was not the OP who suggested an open world thing, but several of the other players, myself included.. Speaking only for myself here, but I'd like some sort of ingame place where players could get honored, so that we could go there and pay our respects.. It should not be a place where we ourselves could put names, as that would almost surely get abused.. Neither should it be a place where we can duel, run or use abilities.. A solemn place where we can honor our friends who are not here anymore

We have gotten very very far away from the OP's request. The OP requested the Crab-Slaughter-Crane be turned into a housing item with a little post on it about a guildy. Now, personally, I would LOVE to have the Crab-Slaughter-Crane turned into a housing item. I'd love to have that MONSTER FISH in my house. I've seen MANY people suggest plaques that we can edit as well. These are two individual items that could be morphed into what the OP is requesting, as well as two items everyone else could use.

I know MANY people have already said this, but we keep getting sidetracked (Myself included with my book) with thinking up ways to make it work for EVERYONE...when in reality we have already thought up the way to make it work. The plaque that can be edited would work by itself as people could use it to make memorials in their homes and whatnot, as many others have stated.

One more house-fish and a plaque wouldn't be difficult (At least I don't think it'd be difficult, I could be wrong I don't know) to add in at any patch, and EVERYONE gets a use out of it.

People who want the fish get the fish, people who want to write stupid stuff on a plaque like "If you read this you are a moron" get to do that, as someone said earlier, and people who want to use it for memorials get to do so as well.

Heck, I completely abandon my book idea and fully support the idea of Crab-Slaughter-Crane being made into a housing item, and a plaque that can be edited. I also liked the idea about a memorial garden in the OP's guild's hall to serve in that fashion as well.

It's amazing the kind of people that are out there assuming I'm doing this for fame...because oh so much fame comes from a single post. This is the first time I have even posted. But it seems to me that by complaining about not commenting on YOUR idea it is you who is looking for fame.... that being said it is actually a beautiful idea. I was just looking for something that was more specific to the player this was how I was instructed to do it by customer service. I have never posted before.

I do not mind people having opinions against this but it's their comments that we are using our dead friend to get this so called "fame". None of you even know me or the guild and these kind of comments are ignorant and pointless except to try and cause trouble. You are right though Bethany. As this is my first time posting ever you made me realize that I am on.y contributing to the negativity by replying to those comments and not ones like yours!

Apologies to everyone. This was supposed to be a nice positive thing and it's turning ugly. Very sad.

The easy solution l, shirt if actually designing something, is to have a plaque obtainable in game that can have the players name.

This plaque can be placed in any home. One could place one in their own home and place one into a home being used as a guild hall if they permit. The latter becoming property of the home owned.

Simple solution that has zero affect on the open game yet permits players to have a memorial

What a lovely gesture that would be. I really hope you get a positive response from zos. It has occurred to me in the past to wonder what would happen to a players account should they pass away, I mean FB have "remembering", and an eso account seems just as permanent as a FB account, to me at least.

That seems a question for a different discussion. This was the only way I knew how to talk to the Devs about it. And, although a legitimate question, I feel that we should leave it to the Devs to figure out the logistics of other lost players. This was a request to honor a great gamer. As I'm sure that this is not the first or last time these unfortunate events have happened it seemed appropriate to at least ask rather than just assume they would say no. Thank you for your concern though because as I said, it's a legit question, just please, not here.

Khajiit is very much in favour of the occasional memorial to a traveller in Tamriel who is much missed. This is a small thing that hurts no one and soothes the weary hearts of those who have lost a friend.

There is a big difference between a little something like this that would mean a lot to so many yes and accommodating the many hundreds of small and random requests from travellers - many of them from this one and most of them involving yarn.

This one she also has another suggestion - perhaps name a fish after this traveller yes?

This is a great idea, and I think it could be a much easier implementation than a housing related item. They'll have a whole library of existing models, animations, etc, though I'm not sure how much real work goes into placing an innocuous NPC out of the way somewhere.

I will say, however, the argument of accommodation is a valid one. Regardless, maybe this is a side project someone at ZOS could tackle; some system of memorialization (that's a word right?). While everyone plays different, MMOs like this attract and create communities of people who would appreciate such a system.

LotRO did something like this once... There was a monster player who would sit on a large boulder waiting for freeps to pass by and attack from there. When that player died, they put a replica of his character on that rock on every server in his memory. It's a sad event, but always heartwarming when developers do something like this.

I want to first share my condolence to the fallen ESO player that passed away. To my full condolence to his family and to his guild members that knew him well.

I don't want to come across as some jerk, but real life should stay out of this game. If ZOS gives special treatment for this occasion then they should give that same treatment to everyone else. Again I'm sorry that this player passed away, but their is other ways to share his memory. As a paid ESO Plus subscriber I would really like for the developers to pay more attention into fixing their game and patching up bugs and other issues that is game breaking. Time is precious and I would really like for them to fix the game soon.

Perhaps the OP should think about creating a website dedicating the Crab-Slaughter-Crane fish to honor this player, and have people talk about it? The website should have photos of the players characters, and write articles and possible upload videos.

There is other ways to share his memory then to impose it into the actual game itself.

You guys seem to think I was asking for your opinions on whether or not ZoS should or shouldn't help us honor our fellow guildie.... well you're wrong! This was a question to the Devs to help us honor him. It absolutely never hurts to ask and as commented earlier it is not a request without precedent. If you have ideas we're happy to hear them but we're not interested in what you think ZoS should be doing with their time. A friend was lost please keep your ideas positive or start another thread and discuss your concerns about whether or not ZoS should honor the dead.
