For that matter, how is it a guard is able to teleport me 30 feet away to demand I pay my bounty? And is it really in the spirit of good-natured ribbing if you don't have the gold and get a sword between your ribs instead? That's the bad-natured kind of ribbing.

Haven't been too impressed so far with this particular part of this holiday quest.

Someone told me that crouching inside the cart when trying to steal the apples will prevent you from getting the bounty.
Haven't been able to try this one out yet.

If you want to avoid the butcher: as soon as you walk up the stone steps with the festival NPCs (the first big stairs after you come out of the swampy-half of the city?) turn left immediately at the top of the stairs and walk behind the inn and buildings next to it, towards the city exit. After passing the inn, the butcher shouldn't bother you any more.

If your paladin happens to be literate, you should give him some philosophy stuff to read. Being the good guy ain't that easy, and that's a typical case. By - stubbornly - refusing to use those apples, he's also refusing to assist this poor chained pig doomed to play the princess for the entertainment of the masses. You know this pig's case has been widely advocated by the TAAR (Tamriel Association for Animal Rights) ?

Stay on the paths or sidewalks and run through the city, you can even do this on your horse. Once you go off road, the poor pigs feets get all scuffed up and he stops.

And, yes the path to the left is the way to go. The chef still comes out and yells at you, but it does not seem to stop the achivement. To the right, your getting caught.

There does definitely appear to be a defined path. If you go to the left, people will cheer you for stealing the pig (I think). At the Inn, the woman runs out the door and, if she does, I get stopped and have to pay a fine, but I keep the pig and complete the event.

I think if you go around the back of the Inn, you can avoid that.

That is the way to go. Sharp left after reaching the top of the stairs and just hug the wall all the way to the gate. You can do this mounted with rapids or on foot.

The not getting the bounty on the apples is still a mystery for me, though, hehe. I get the bounty every. single. time.

I avoided a bounty on the apples the first time, somehow, but have gotten a bounty everytime since. NPCs dead or no. At this point I'm like F it, just walk away.

There are no guards where the apple are and you can easily avoid any more by swimming up the east side of the island. Going back, there's an easy to avoid guard on the stairs into the Dunmar part of the city, no guards left side of the buildings. After that you just have one at the bottom of the stairs and on the bridge. If they catch someone else, run past they're busy.

If I get caught, I tell them I'm not paying and walk away. I have a speed boost, but otherwise I just save my stamina to roll or break free. The guard's jurisdiction limit is step past the jester, and the pig is not deterred by the commotion.

You can use a pardon to clear your bounty after, or leave it if you're swapping characters.

This is such a stupid quest, I'm sure its bugged, I'm doing this trying to steal the apples right now in Stonefalls, and its impossible to steal them without breaking stealth, even with all NPCs the furthest distance away. Really frustrating since I have to use up counterfeit pardon edits to clear the bounty.

I got it, on 2 characters so far, with no problems. On PC/EU if that matters.
