Chicken breast

I know I'm a noob to this game being only level 32, but I have at least 300 hours logged into both oblivion and sky rim. Yet I've never been more frustrated than I am trying to find chicken breast or the chicken breast recipe. I can't even get past the first provisioning writ. How the hell do I get this recipe???

Find a chef in the world (taverns are a good place) and they should sell of the basic green recipes needed for writs.

Otherwise you can check guild stores or ask in zone chat if players have one they can give/sell.

EDIT: Whilst drafting / proofreading and Google checking my content others have answered the question. Here's my reply anyway!

I think Chefs are selling these simple recipes. And iirc it is mentioned during the introduction quest for the writs.

All of that could be absolutely wrong of course as I haven't played the game for a few months, but you may want to check some of the vendors.

This page (http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Vendors) also states that Chefs are selling recipes.

Talk to a chef. Most will always sell a recipe you'll need to complete a writ. For drinks, you will need to speak to a brewer (gets harder in some areas, as brewers are usually outside a crafting area).

Keep at least 3000 gold on hand as you level up, because recipes start to increase in price as you level. Right now, I believe recipes will cost you 570 gold each.

As for the meat itself, look for poultry. You can usually find it aboard ships, hanging in the galley, or around hagraven homes. Search barrels, crates, and baskets, as you'll find plenty of ingredients in these containers.

If poultry is marked as "Steal", take it anyway without being caught. As soon as you use it in a recipe, it's no longer in your inventory. Just make sure to craft before you steal again, because if you get caught, all your stolen items are removed.

You should be able to buy it from a chef vendor because it is a writ recipe... But I think the screwed up and the chef sells based on your level instead of based on your provisioning level or the zones old level. I have never looked on a character under 50 but every chef I checked last check only sold me 50 plus writ recipes.

You should check yourself though, in Auridon at Vulkhel Guard in Salted Wings Tavern(Can aslo check in Stonefalls at Davons Port at any inn, or in Glenumbra at an inn in Daggerall) talk to the chef see what he offers. If he has it then it's working as intended.

Guild stores may also have it, but even if your on PC with addons that help search it can be a PITA.

I really suggest not bothering with writs till you are 50 in the crafts and have max proficiency on them. The inspiration and exp given really aren't worth the trouble.

Thanks for the help. In terms of waiting, it feels like there's good gold in crafting - I think I'm adding 1200-1500 gold for pretty short amount of work each time I go through writs. Plus I'm able to craft myself a decent set of leather enchanted armor, which helps with battles. Is there more benefit to waiting and doing it later?

This has been a tough game to learn - seems like there's so many more tricks to master than oblivion or sky rim.

No benefit to learning later, you might as well start early as you'll be levelling it with the other parts of your character and reaping the personal benefits (like your own armour as you said).

Start researching traits as early as you can for the main crafts and always try to have something researching as these times go up for each item in doubles until they cap at 30 days (with skillpoints spent on the researching skill).

The only thing you may find hard is having enough SP to support your crafting progression in multiple crafts whilst you level, this eases off once you clear the main game and start getting more skyshards from additional zones.

You also have a chance of getting a Master Writ each time you hand in a normal crafting writ daily. Whilst these won't be of much use to you at a lower level, you can sell them (1000-2000g per token it's worth) to other players for some nice gold early on.

Thanks Turelus. I went on a massive skyshard hunt the other day for that reason, and cleared out the shards in like 5 different zones. It's allowed me to put points into blacksmith, woodwork, enchant and clothing.

Has that been confirmed? I swore the notes said when turning in max level writs. This doesn't sound intended if they are dropping from low level writs.

@Cryptical I follow the development of the game. I played since release on PC and there's currently nothing new for me in game and unfortunately nothing that I enjoy so I stopped playing. However, as it is a game I used to enjoy I still check the forum every now and then.

I hope that's ok.

I've never purchased a recipe from a chef. I just loot EVERYTHING in the world. You'll be surprised how many recipes drop out of backpacks and dressers...Just don't get caught stealing.

I had no idea chefs sell them now. At launch, Chicken Breast was soooo hard I find. A guild mate lived at K. Roost with an alt and farmed it all the time. Sellin them for thousands at a time.

God console economy was insane at launch.

Just to let you know I THINK you don't need the recipe to complete the writ. A crafter can make the food for you.

oh, if you're doing consumable writs, I'd recommend you make about 10 of each item when you get the quest. The provisioning and alchemy writs repeat a lot. If you already have the item you need to make in your inventory, you just pick up the writ, and drop it off. Made it super easy to do.

Wondering the same. When I quit games I don't stay on the forums of games I've stopped playing. But that me, everyone different.

Yes OP chefs should have that recipe as others already mentioned. Good luck

has been answered several times already in this thread, that you can buy the writ recipes from chefs/brewers. However, something that I didn't realize until much later, since I figured that these were meant as a little boost to get you going. But it never occurred to me that the chef/brewer inventory would change with your provisioning passive as well. so when you hit the next passive, the recipes available from them will also match the new writs you get too...

that was the case, but i think that's been recently changed, possibly for provisioning and alchemy, that you need to make your own now...but i am not positive of this....

Not true.
Alchemy and provisioning writs still work in the good way.
Craft a boat load of stuff for Alts and the writs are done instantly

Op: I recommend depending how invested in the game you get....

If very:
Research traits on armour weapons etc. Buy passives.
Get hirelings.
Start training horse.
To farm provisioning ingredients: go coldharbour and loot all the food shops/ cupboards etc.
Find a friendly guild to help you out.

(be careful of the tips ppl give, some ppl with no knowledge give out bad tips, eg other day a guy was telling someone to gold out their engine gaurdian set for a PVE dps and other little stuff like this)

If casual: just play and ignore the crafting, it'll take up to much time and effort getting the stuff.
Join a guild, ppl will give u free food etc and armour.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I probably will be pretty invested in the game, so I've been training my horse, and got hirelings. I'll do the cold harbor looting next - that's great advice. Appreciate everyone helping out...I got the recipe from a guild mate, so finally can get through that.
