Shadowy Disguise or Dark Cloak? Pve & pvp

My main is a Redguard stamblade. Up until now I have done exclusively pve but now that I have hit lvl 50, I am wanting to break into pvp and I keep seeing that a a morph of shadow cloak is essential.

In pve you don't really need it when you're leveling. My question is should I go for the shadowy disguise morph or dark cloak? Which one is better

I still plan on doing pve with the Redguard so this is for both pve and pvp. Which is better overall?

Thank you!

You don't use cloak in PvE at all under any circustances. ;)

In PvP Shadowy Disguise is better IMO, because while you are cloaked all the healing over time you have will automatically crit. So you're back to full health in no time if built properly. And it allows you for some really nice counter attacks.

Dark cloak is kinda meh. Minor Protection is good, but when it only lasts 5 seconds its not worth it.

well good then I feel I've done something right

    I see, thank you.

I'll probably go for shadowy disguise then. Unless there are any convincing arguments for the contrary

I think I see it recommended more anyway. Thank you for the help!

    Any additional help is appreciated

The nightblade doesn't seem to be a good class but I've gone this far with it, might as well continue!

Nightblade would be much better if they'd rework the passives. Siphoning passives are pretty useless for Stam builds, minus the potion ult generation. Assassination leaves a ton to be desired, especially when compared to sorc's physical/lightning damage boost, or templar's weapon damage boost. I'm not saying that we should homogenize the class, but ffs, when NB makes up a ridiculously small percent of trial clears, you know something is wrong. The shadow passives are at least moderately acceptable.

Yes, I have found that nightblade's class-based passives are overall bad.

I get more benefit from the medium armor and dual wield passives than anything. And of course Redguard's highly beneficial racial passives.

    Class passives are too lackluster.

Add in the fact that survivability is somewhat tough, and the class seems to get pushed to the side.

Who knows, maybe a future update will put us on top.

Cloak in PvE has other uses outside of combat, mainly stealth of course. Skipping some Delve trash to get to skyshards or the Delve boss.

In combat it's lackluster. Yes, you can combo it with surprise attack, but you could just kill them instead. I think of it as a "for fun" skill. Basic overland content though it's not completely useless, though it may be relative to how one feels personally.

I disagree. Minor Protection is broken it's so strong. And yes, you might get a few HoT crits but to me that does not compare to an 8% damage reduction.
So disguise is for offense (like getting huge empowered critting heavy attacks) and cloak is for defense (like popping out of combat for a few seconds to reposition and heal up).

Cloak/disguise actually has its uses in PvE. Very very useful in both the TG and DB dlcs.

Just used it for this purpose tonight... cloaked through the delve in order to get to delve boss. Come to think of it, I have used it in numerous occasions to get by hordes of enemies. It also will make mobs immediately stop attacking you as long as you are cloaked, so in that way, it does have its use.

This is a pretty strong argument for cloak... I'll have to read more into which one to pick because I am still not sure now...

I use mine for practice to memory burn my bar to my brain. I've got my Shadowy Disguise working up now. With the new Jester's Festival memento, this should go quicker for a while.

I love the free crit, but yeah, it's pretty much a "fun thing to do" in PvE. Plus, who doesn't love that "swoosh" sound when going dark.

I wanted to use Shadow Disguise crit in PvE (and PvP) but unfortunately the guaranteed crit gets used up by your poison ticks, which is pretty horrible. So basically it would be a useable skill if not for the fact it doesn't synergise with any DoTs.
