Was it worth it then?

No and truth be told I never wanted them. I was after heavy sturdy bloodspawn for my new tank. These dropped and I thought *** me I have never ever ever ever had these. They are also only the 2nd pair of eg shoulders I have had to date behind a set of medium well fitted back in the day.
Now that I have them I kind of want to find a use for them.
If you don't have 10 forums stars you don't know what the real grind is.
Congrats though, I know how horrible farming shoulders is in game.
Never understood why people chase Divines on one piece of gear.
All that time and effort for another .9% Crit Chance or 96 more magic or 6.7 more spell damage. It is not going to make any difference.

I got engine guardian shoulders in divines. 799CP it took. Surely this a new record. Even my sharp vma staves only took a year.
Got a feeling that sharp bsw inferno will drop soon.

You know what though, it does make a difference and in this day in age, I'm going to want all of the small incremental advantages that I can get.
Think about this too - did it ever occur that sometimes gear progression is about not only having the best gear, but also feeling good for having the gear no matter how incremental of an advantage the very last perfect piece caused one to receive?
And imagine, furthermore, that 799 CP to obtain that piece of gear is more than just one silly anecdote. It is a metaphor. It is a metaphor for how bad this game can get with progression systems that were not well thought out or implemented.
This is just one small story, but there are very many like it. Maybe some people only lose out on a few spell damage, but in other inevitable instances, there are people that are held back from competing, there are people that have quit, and we all lose out a lot more from those instances than ZOS would lose out by ensuring a guaranteed path to progression for certain items.
