Dual Wield

g0dlik3buthumbl3
Recently I've seen some high profile nightblade players with sword and dagger, or axe and dagger rather than the conventional double dagger setup. Is this because of the nerf to crit with this latest patch? Should I be switching up from 2 daggers for better dps?

Surely someone must know the answer to this? Calling all the masters of theorycrafting, maths and tooltip.

In PvP a higher crit chance isn't always better because of impen traits for armor.

In PvE I don't know, the Axe gives an high DoT and if their Crit chance is already reasonable high (enough) they might want to use the DoT for prolonged fights. The sword gives flat out damage boosts, maybe some tested that it goes better with their build by a small margine.

    Correct me if im wrong.

vMA weapon buffs axe bleed proc which is better dps in the trial single target boss fights than the dagger crit % now that the crit damage has taken a hit.

But then a dual dagger setup is better for AOE situations.

Yeah, one was using dagger and axe, the other was using dagger and sword. They were doing vMA, but I doubt anyone would be using a vMA sword.

Well if they were doing vMA they shouldnt really be using vMA weapons anyway as you wont take full advantage of the buff due to how quickly you should be obliterating everything in your path.

Infact i wouldnt even run an axe + dagger build in vMA, the 2 dagger build adds crit % for dps and heals and the bleed effect would only be effective on bosses and isnt really necessary.

For fast runs stick with 2 daggers imo.

Unless you're fighting a boss that is immune to bleeding, in which case your axe is completely useless ...

haha which is why i just say f the axe and roll with 2 daggers.

Any idea what kind of dps loss that is on a boss which does bleed @SirAndy ?
    Hopefully its minuscule...

They updated the game a few patches ago so that everything bleeds.

My understanding of this (although possibly flawed) is that it may come down to gear setup. The reason for running daggers was always for the bonus to penetration. But with players running sets like Spriggans there are situations where running two daggers would mean more penetration than is necessary and hence its just a waste as it gives no real benefit if you are ignoring all of a mobs armour. Therefore because set bonuses are giving such high penetration its better to take additional damage from other weapon types.

Daggers give bonus to crit - maces give bonus to penetration.

But your right - if you allready got enough penetration from other sources, it's better to use some other DW-pssiv bonus (like dmg from swords or DoT from axes).

I'm using Dagger/Axe in PVE and Sword/Mace in PvP.

I still get the "target is immune" message on some bosses?
