Exp is used to level up skills and non-guild skill lines. Leveling up skill lines overall such as Mages Guild, Undaunted, is not tied to exp.

Oh cool thanks for the link. That's a good question tho. Does the double XP count towards the mage guild when you pick up the lore books?

I don't know for you, but for me tomorrow is 22nd. and the event kicks off on 23rd.

Double XP was confirmed by @ZOS_GinaBruno in the Jester's Event discussion page. Note that it is just tasks that earn you XP ... not collecting Mages Guild lorebooks.

To Clarify, the points towards leveling the Mages or Fighters or Undaunted or Thieves or DB are really called Reputation. You get Rep by doing various things for the guild, as you know. You may also get Experience, but that is separate from Rep. So, doubling Exp is not going to Double Rep gain. Same thing that doubling Exp does not double Inspiration for Crafting.

I never understood why the Fighters and Mages did not give out Rep for doing their quest lines like the Thieves and DB Guilds do, but it is what we have.

They really need to consider on transfering all the skill points to all your characters and when you make a new character the skill points will already be there. Should be the same with mages guild and fighters automatic level 10 instead of redoing it over and over everytime.

Yes says eating a pie will give you a 2 hour double XP buff.

This has nothing to do about the event coming. I was told with homestead you can put all those lore books on display in your house and your alts can read them to level mage guild quickly? Is this true? Haven't heard anything else about it so I assume it's not.

Absolutely not true. The Patch Notes for housing lore books specifically state that you do not receive credit for reading these COPIES. You must read the ORIGINAL.

Right. It's complicated.

Active skills (from any line) level up if they're equipped at the moment you gain XP.
Class and weapon skill LINES level if you have active skills from those lines equipped at the moment you gain XP.
I've been told the same is true of the vampire and werewolf skill lines.
Weapon and armor skill lines also level if you have GEAR from those lines equipped at the moment you gain XP.

This is why many people have separate skill bars they use only for quest turn-in. I also sometimes weapon-swap to my back bar right before a dolmen blows up.

Skill lines whose leveling has no direct connection to XP gain include all the guilds, as noted above, Soul Magic, and of course all the crafting lines. So while equipping a Mage's Guild skill (for example) and gain XP will help you level that skill up, it won't help you level up the overall skill line.

I must have the mudballs preying on my mind because I swear when I was reading the description and it said "extremely convincing" in italics I did a double take because I thought it had said "extremely annoying."
