"Wild Hunt" is a lore-abiding name being slapped on a terrible gambling system that has no place in a game with a functional direct-purchase cash shop.

    No offense to ZoS.

But Wild Hunt, top of mind for me is Hearts of Thorn GW2... You know... The Slyvari.
Traehearne's Wild Hunt... Caithe's Wild Hunt... Slyvari, they all have "Wild Hunts"

Nothing Elder Scrolls related screams wild hunt. Wild Hunt has no meaning for me in Elder Scroll games.
It's as if someone was hired to come up with a name, and has no knowledge of Elder Scrolls and just slapped on Wild Hunt, because its trending in MMORPG.

What about vision? What about history? The Elder Scrolls

Only see 2 MMOs competing right now, GW2 and ESO. Using words to bring back memories of another game isn't a good marketing tactic.

The Wild Hunt is a ritual known only to the Bosmer shamans of Valenwood. This ritual act is reserved to protect Valenwood from invading forces. It permanently transforms all participants into mindless, blood-thirsty monsters who first consume all of their enemies and then themselves. The Bosmer have noted that all monsters in the world were born from previous Wild Hunts. The ritual is also performed at the end of each Era, as a ritualistic practice within Valenwood.

King Borgas of Winterhold in Skyrim was killed by a Wild Hunt in 1E 369. He fell victim to this whilst travelling to Cyrodiil in an effort to create a war against the Bosmer.

@JamieAubrey how you find that out? You actually read the lorebooks?

Difference between wild hunt in ESO is, the game doesnt promote it, the storyline doesnt engrain it in your mind. However, GW2 is very good at making good storylines that flow and consistent, Wild Hunt is very popular and thats something NPCs will talk about a lot.

ESO you have so many things going on, no emphasis.
GW2 a lot going on, but emphasis on certain parts, Wild Hunt being one of them.

One other difference, GW2 names it Wyld Hunt, so in google searches its not found. ESO uses Wild Hunt, its after a bunch of other links of another MMORPG The Witcher.

So basically this name, loses to GW2, and the The Witcher. When you pick names, usually you want to be at the top of google searches. White areas, you dont go being part of the glooobedy glop.

Again, HBS Blue Ocean Strategy, go into areas uncontested... Why you keep going with Red Ocean strategy???

    gimme an LOL button.

Serious note, 100 views and 6 votes? This is why things arent great anymore. People want to support a brand/company, but they refuse to let them know weaknesses, hence they go back and tell marketing boss. Yep it worked, poll shows 100% good name for mystery crate.

Next time I make a poll, I'm going to include. Hopeful it makes ESO more successful, I love this game. So you 94 voters can pick that option, sense you know the name is terrible, but you don't want to downgrade a game you like playing.

I don't see any issues with it.

It seems to fit the contents of the crates and let us know well in advance the kind of theme they were going for.

Many players who enjoy the ES world read the lorebooks in-game.

The Wild Hunt has a background outside video games. Britain, Germany and Scandinavia have folklore about the Wild Hunt. Its mentioned as an omen of coming catastrophe and disaster. One leader is Herne the Hunter; I'd guess Hircine is bases on him. And guess what Hircine's werwolves are called....Hounds. Sounds about right for the Wild Hunt, actually.

Yes, 'Wild Hunt' is a term GW2 had in at release, I see zero relevance in ESO for using it.

Good name as names go, but not sure why Wild Hunt mounts are suddenly flooding Tamriel when the Hunt hasn't been started.

The Wild Hunt is even referenced in the quests in AD. Elder Scrolls lore is richer and older than GW2 so you might say GW2 copied it :P When I hear Wild Hunt I think about the real world mythology Wild Hunt, the Elder Scrolls Wild Hunt and one of my character's names Hunts-for-Wisdom. I didn't even know GW2 had a wild hunt association until you mentioned it.

The Wild Hunt has been a part of Elder Scrolls lore since 2002. Just because other games have used the phrase since then (or because you're new to the series or don't read the in-game books) doesn't mean ZOS should refrain from referencing their own well-established lore. I for one am glad they didn't put marketing concerns ahead of the lore on this one.
