note some of this may be extra but I wanted to make sure, and decided to make this specific thread as the option is buried in text and most have a short attention span. <3

go to your email.

email zos at: ads@zenimax.com

write that you opt out of the third party sharing as stated in:

**link the following from their own tos**

"We may also, unless you have opted out, share certain information (such as your email address) with these and other third parties to assist them in better targeting our users within their services; you can opt-out of our sharing your personal information to target you this way by emailing us at ads@zenimax.com."

include for sake of clarity your email address associated with your account (even if your emailing from said account)
email: so and so @gmail.com
include for sake of clarity your account name associated with you email
account: @so and so

finally reaffirm your original intentions:

I opt out.

and there you go, hope this helps everyone.

TL;DR: there's nothing you can do, Zo$ is watching you from your microwave as well.

This doesn't reaffirm my paranoia, false reality in regards to actual laws, or let me cry foul on a completely standard clause of a service on the internet.

I guess ZOS are getting desperate for cash if threy're having to resort to selling player data and are making it annoyingly tedious to opt out by not providing a simple setting in our account on their website.

Honestly why do you care? You already gave all your information to Google or Apple or Microsoft when you used their products. And those are just companies that say they are taking your information. Also any site that uses cookies is collecting your data to an extend. and if you really want to get technical any site with a mobile version is collecting the information of your device in order to size the site to your device.

so are you telling me that I'm imagining the section in my account management page, called marketing preferences? in which i can select whether I want my e-mail to be shared or not?

Reporting on our actions in game goes yet further than reporting on what web pages we look at and so on.

Besides, one can block those in large part (by no means entirely) via browser extensions.

What's more, not all companies claim the right to share all of our information with anybody they choose.

Simply use email that's not your main email and details that are fake (obviously credit card details can't be fake. But those can't be shared anyway as that would be a federal crime on a massive scale in almost any country in the world)
There you go, problem solved. Let them spam your disposable email full of junk all they want, addressed to Mr. ILikeFishDicks. It's what I do and it works.

Well, the forum is making more out of this than the whole thing is worth, so you have to also take that into account.

You think they would have made a clearer post with how this community acts. Remember when they changed the ToS the other year and people flipped out?

Most people ignore Privacy Policies. The number of people who will even read that privacy policy is going to be so small that, for all intents and purposes, we can consider it to be "zero". Oddly enough, also the population of the universe, but lets not get distracted.

Since most people, myself included, do not have a copy of the old privacy policy, I do appreciate them mentioning what they changed. Sadly, a lot of people are more concerned about the parts they did not change, which is because they are part of the rather large group known as "everyone" that has never read it before.

I wonder: do you need to first accept the updated TOS before you can opt out? Or can you opt out before?

If I asked to opt out, but then install the patch and click accept, will that opt me back in?

Further: if I opt in, but send an email (that takes a couple days to process) to opt out, is the damage already done?

You do know that Blizzard has been doing the exact same thing since 2005 yes?

Has nothing to do with being desperate for cash.

Yeah its that Blizz program that runs in the background everytime I start blizzard up to play a game, I just cancel it everytime, also Bioware/EA as well.

I'm more "kind of shocked" that people are talking about leaving/unsubbing on the strength of an updated privacy notice that is probably no different to anyone else's and which ZOS haven't yet issued any clarification over. People are already reading into it that the game is going to be riddled with advertising and going F2P which seems to be rather a giant leap of the imagination.

I do think that ZOS should make an early statement clarifying the situation, but until they do it would seem perfectly reasonable not to jump to conclusions or overreact precipitately.

Y'all do realize that this is not ZOS, right? This is ZeniMax Media, aka "ZeniMax", aka Corporate, aka The Parent Company, and it "applies to all personal information received by ZeniMax from its online websites, services, products, and mobile applications."

So, yeah, the fact that people are "leaving/unsubscribing" just because the parent company added a Third-Party Marketing paragraph to their generic corporate privacy policy is definitely "shocking".

Tying this to ESO in-game advertising is laughable.

PSA on this little bit of advice: Do NOT use a fake email for your account, if you log in from a different computer, or even if your modem changes its' IP for some reason, you'll be locked out as you'll need a verification code that's going to an email that doesn't exist.
