Today’s PC incremental patch for v2.7.10 contains some fixes and updates to the ESO Privacy Policy; all hyperlinks will now direct you to the proper pages, and we've added a section for third party marketing. In addition, all humanoid enemies will now utilize the correct combat idle animations that reflect their weapon type.

Just when I thought Zenimax's greed couldn't get any more crass. I think I'm done here.

If you're on PC EU can I have your stuff? Serious question if you're leaving as I am saving for a house.

Also it might shock you to see that most privacy statements you agree to are pretty much like this.

Is there any limit to the uses to which the data can be put, or to who can use it?

I didn't see any on a quick skim.

    THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING
We may partner with third party ad networks to either display advertising on our website or to manage our advertising on other websites. We and our ad network partners use cookies, web beacons and other tools to collect information about your activities on this and other websites, as well as your IP address and location information, to provide you targeted advertising based upon your interests and to evaluate the success of their advertising.

For example, we may work with Facebook (see their privacy policy, and ad preferences page) to display targeted ads to you in Facebook. We may also work with others, such as Google Ads and DoubleClick (see their privacy policy, and ad preferences page), and Weborama (see their privacy policy and opt out page), to display ads to you on other third party sites, based on your use of our products, activities on our sites and services, or other interactions with us. We may also, unless you have opted out, share certain information (such as your email address) with these and other third parties to assist them in better targeting our users within their services; you can opt-out of our sharing your personal information to target you this way by emailing us at ads@zenimax.com. We will process your opt out in a reasonable amount of time; please note, that your opt out is only effective on a going-forward basis and not with respect to any information we have previously shared for these purposes. As noted above, you may also control how Google, Facebook and other third parties display certain ads to you, as explained further in their respective privacy policies and ad preferences pages.

You also may also get more information about targeted advertising, as well as opt-out of receiving targeted ads from many third-party ad networks (including Facebook and Google), through the following:

    For U.S. Users:

    www.networkadvertising.org/optout_nonppii.asp (Network Advertising Initiative)
    www.aboutads.info/choices (Digital Advertising Alliance)
For users in the European Union:

www.youronlinechoices.eu (European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance)
Please note that opting out of participating ad networks does not opt you out of being served advertising. You will continue to receive generic or “contextual” ads on our website. You may also continue to receive targeted ads on other websites, from companies that do not participate in the above programs.

No need to fret, these days you can't really do anything at all without leaving a data cloud behind you, you've been saying yes to these things for years, ZOS was just up front enough to make it obvious is all

Would have liked a simple preference toggle within account rather than having to send an email.

They would rather you not opt out, which is why they don't spend the time/money to develop such an account option.

Thing is this is not actually new. You know all those contests they do? They're done in conjunction with 3rd party partners who will have received your information if you entered the contest. (This was in the terms and conditions for the contests, but I assume most people didn't read them.)

The only difference is now we have clear information on what will happen to that data and a way to stop it being shared if we want to.

Also in 11 days the EU is changing to requiring opt-IN - meaning unless you have explicitly said (or ticked a box to say) ZOS CAN send you marketing, give your data to 3rd parties or whatever else they can't do it. And the fines for breaking that law are done as a percentage of the companies annual revenue so it's a pretty solid incentive not to.

California residents can request once per year a report to see what data is gathered and used . I may write for request just to see exactly what is gathered just to see if it's anything to be concerned about for others . I have a feeling it's the usual information to make purchases that are shared with credit card companies to complete transactions online and to cover ZoS from future problems but just in case ... It's just an email to get one .

I wonder if that is why they are sending this out right now? For atleast the EU players anyways.

I personally could care less what they do with the email they have for my account. Considering how easy it is to make multiple email addresses I have 1 for all my games, 1 for stores, and 1 for personal use.

Most people I know have multiple emails to keep there personal email free from add and other junk.

I will concede that subscribers pay for this service and we don't belong in the same money-grab-bag, however Zos has never treated subscribers well so I'm not surprised that we are automatically included.

Non-subscribers who are surprised.... well, now you know how your presence contributes.

I think what I love most about this thread is the fact everyone kicking off has probably already had this happen to their data tens of times over because all the websites, services etc. they use.

You know there was a time you couldn't even purchase from the EA Origin webpage without allowing 3rd party tracking cookies?

It's related to the housing expansion.

They are current in works to add la-z-boy recliner plan, Samsung ice chest plans and George Foreman grill plans. More to come.

I think I read Overstock.com was working to sponsor a furniture vendor though Ikea is probably going to make a counter offer.

I'll make use of opt out. I don't want to be looking at ads, it's bad enough as it is on TV and everywhere else.

Besides that, I block every ad and every script on most sites, so Zenimax can, quite frankly, stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.
