When you go shopping at guild traders all the way out in the middle of nowhere or pretty far from major locations , do you expect to see some lower prices ?

A better answer for me would be "I don't use guild traders".

It's usually pointless for me. They all seem to be owned by dedicated trade guilds which means everyone selling through them just wants to make as much money as possible so they only sell the most valuable or fastest selling items. Which is very rarely what I want to buy.

Every so often I get optimistic, go to 3 or 4 of the nearest guild vendors, find they're all selling the same stuff (usually for far more than my guilds sell it), give up and go back to only trading with my own guilds.

Not really. Unless it's a smaller guild, which consistently get bad traders, then you don't really know 30 days in advance, when you're making that listing, whether your guild will have a *** or good trader.

I understand what you are saying but not all are this way . I don't know who the guilds are at the Baandari trade post , but you may want to try there for uncommon odds & ends at reasonable prices . I don't usually plug for any trade guilds I don't belong to but that place is sometimes useful for what you are talking about . That is if you are PC NA player . @Danikat

I'm too lazy to hit every single trader, I mainly just go to the 3 primary cities in Stormhaven, Deshaan, and Grahtwood. If I don't find what I'm looking for, screw it.

There are a few out there that do this and you have to go searching for them. But I wouldn't want all the far out ones to be low otherwise it would make the main trading hubs pointless.

No traveling long distance does not mean they need to sell for less to get business

I usually shop around in the small traders when I happen to be nearby (questing or exploring). I do not expect to find only bargains, players who sell there may ask whatever prices they consider fair.

i'm just wondering what program it is that you think they should be getting with.

On PC I expect everyone to use MM and the prices to be more or less the same everywhere. So I only visit the traders in the 3 major cities.

Yes, because of those guilds want to make sales and move up the ladder they need to stop selling things at a higher price than the trade hubs.

Sadly a lot of those guilds don't educate their members so the stores are full of useless items at prices no one will pay.

I go bargain hunting all the time and I love that isolated vendors have lower prices, however, their selection is usually not as plentiful. The isolated vendors are good checks to some of the price gouging that goes on in Rhwalka.

I find bargains at every trader. Obviously the ones at trading hubs are snatched up quicker than the ones in the hinterlands.

Bottom line, some people want gold as fast as possible and price to sell, some people want as much gold as reasonably possible and sell at market price. Some people just want as much gold as possible and price so that only someone desperate would buy it, and no one can take those prices seriously. Besides, if its listed way over market and has been there for 20 plus days, it's not a valid price anyway and the market knows it.

So, in my view, its easier to find bargains at out of the way kiosks, it's easier to find what I am looking for at a trading hub for a reasonable price and the overpriced stuff I ignore, it does not matter.

But doesn't MM only work off your own guilds?

I've given up answering price check requests because I'm forever being told the prices it shows me are too low (and once that I was obviously trying to scam the person asking into selling at a lower price) because I'm not part of any serious trade guilds so the prices it shows me are just friends selling to friends.

Yes, and TTC works off listed prices, not prices that items actually sell for. So, if someone relies on TTC, they are going to be expecting higher prices, and from MM, see lower prices as those prices are set by what actually moves. MM has moved prices down over time, and now TTC is moving prices up.

More often than not any major bargains at the small traders are quickly snatched up by a hardcore trader who takes it and sells it at a major hub for twice what they paid for it.

And they leave the junk is left behind.

So undercutting too much at the small traders only leads to funelling money back to the big traders, and the end purchaser still paying high prices.

Yes, and TTC works off listed prices, not prices that items actually sell for. the reason i will not use ttc is that it works off listed prices..... really silly.

I expect to find cheaper deals that haven't been found yet. My favourite ghost town traders are the skywatch ones in Auridon. Probably made millions off the place.

I honestly do. If I'm visiting a location that isn't: Elden Root, Rawl'ka, Mournhold, or Wayrest? I definitely expect to pay less than if I were at 1 of those "trading hubs".

I am not bitter if the swamp dwelling vendor in lostville has lower prices , that is the only reason to horsebutt that far to search . I am bitter when I go all the way out to the Dirt Mall to find 500% mark ups on mats and powered spinners destro flame staffs at 200k gold . I'm not even sure bitter is the word it's more like what ever makes my face look like this ...

It's regular law of the markets, if you are in the middle of nowhere you get transport costs to pay (IRL) and lower prices ( = less profits), because people won't go very far if they find something as good in the shop right in front of their home.

Sadly in ESO there are a lot of incompetent traders, who believe they should only fill their guild trader with Stuff of Julianos, a couple of bad trait Spinner thingies and the occasional, hugely overpriced Necropotence item.

Right yesterday I have done an extensive shopping tour around whole continent and guess what, the best diversity of items I've found was right at Craglorn.
Places with the most obvious probability of good drops (like Rivenspire) were such a disappointment I won't waste my time going there again. Traders with 50 items, all overpriced, half duplicates, mostly useless.

Craglorn does have a very good middle of the road priced market . I go there a lot when I can't find items in my guilds stores . I'm not sure if it's because that's been the crafting hub for so long or some other reason but it is a great spot to shop if you don't want to ride all over Tamriel for a fair deal .

In my mind when goods don't sell after they have been put up for far longer than average (whether it be because the price is too high or the location is some random trader in the middle of Nowhere), people would consider lowering their prices until it eventually catches somebodies eye. Even if that eye just happens to belong to a conspicuous miser.

Depends on what I'm looking for, but sometimes I have visited nearly every guild trader in the game, including out of the way spots and outlaw refuges. I think even the most remote traders should sell their items at whatever price they want. They already follow the law of supply and demand. Usually you find better deals because they don't get as many customers.

The overall experience would be improved for both shoppers and smaller trading guilds if we had a few more traders in both popular towns, unpopular towns and outlaw refuges, and generally wayshrines were closer to the traders.

2 or 3 more traders added to every outlaw refuge would be a good start. People are too lazy to go in these places because they know there is only one trader inside and usually they don't have very good items for sale. Towns like Abah's Landing could be popular spots, but the wayshrine needs to be moved right next to the traders instead of so far away.

Other areas like Gold Coast would benefit from having all 6 traders right next to each other and close to wayshrine instead of split into two different towns.

For the most part no. It used to be that way but now it seems most the time those far out traders want more. Yeah there are still a few deals to be found if you are the first to see them, but that's the same for every trader not just the boonies. TTC really doesn't help much in that department, every low price seen there will be gone before you get to it.

What it means for me is I don't check the odd ball traders as much as I used to. The savings need to be there otherwise it just isn't worth my time. If I spend an hour looking at prices just to save 10-20k, then I have lost gold that I could have gained playing instead of shopping.

Well let's put this in an economic perspective.

If all the boonies Traders, as you call them, sold their items at much lower prices, then word of mouth would spread that prices are x% cheaper at boonies Traders. Then more players would want to purchase more items at boonies Traders which means the sellers would be making more money. And since the sellers are making more money from the increase in sales, the value of the boonie Trader would increase. When the price of the boonies Trader increases because of the increase in traffic due to the cheap prices of goods, the guild pays more for the trader. When that happens, the players have to increase their prices of goods to pay for the increased price of the trader. At some point they reach equilibrium and no longer experience a surge in customers. The increased prices decreases the number of customers which decreases the number of sales. The decrease in sales decreases the demand for the boonies trader so then there is a decrease in the amount of gold needed to hire the Trader. As the price of the trader goes down, the boonies Traders prices begin to decrease again to increase sales due to the lessened traffic. And the cycle starts all over again.
