I'm not sure if this is a bug, but I haven't been able to complete blacksmithing writs for days because the writs require ore that does not seem to be available.
I am level 43, blacksmithing level 29, metalworking 6/10. When I explore I only find Dwarven and Calcinium ore. My blacksmithing writ requires Ebony ore. I only have a few Ebony ingots, so I cannot complete the writ without finding more Ebony ore. I've tried canceling the writ and getting a new one but it is still Ebony, and I tried exploring a region that I read online contains Ebony but I still only found Dwarven and Calcinium. Throughout the whole game up to this point I have been presented with ore that matches the writs.
I assume I am presented with Dwarven ore because it matches the gear level for my player. And I assume I am presented with Calcinium ore because it matches my metalworking level. It seems to be that ore required for writs is your metalworking level minus one? That's all a guess, but it would explain my current situation.
I know I could get around this by buying ore at a guild trader but I haven't been able to find the type of ore I need, and that method bypasses some of the fun parts of the crafting writs - finding the materials you need as you explore the world. I could also try to remove a skill point from metalworking, but that doesn't seem fun either. Or I could wait until my levels align, which also isn't fun, and they could get out of sync in the future. It's also now hard for me to level up blacksmithing and metalworking, since I can't do the writs.
Anyway, given that the game adjusts the type of ore you find in the world, and the game adjusts the type ore needed for a writ, it seems like those values should be in sync (e.g. writ ore level should be the same as gear ore level, or writ ore level should be the same as metalworking ore level).
Is my understanding of the ore situation correct? Any advice for how I can continue to do the writs?
