Do you think it is because of a memory leak that after playing for about an hour in Cyrodiil the game gets choppy and I have the reload ui to clear it?

A memory leak wouldn't really cause a drop in FPS. In all likelihood, you wouldn't even notice such a bug until the game just up and crashes and the task manager tells you the .exe was trying to use like 10GB of RAM.

I have not personally noticed any kind of gradual drop in FPS while playing, but that's certainly not to say that there isn't a problem somewhere. It's just probably not a memory leak, a very straightforward and self-descriptive term that armchair programmers on the internet nevertheless don't seem to understand at all.

I don't know what platform you play on, but if you use PC, I've heard the launcher has a memory leak. I always close it as soon as the game launches.

Has caused "fewer" problems it seems but obviously not free of disconnects etc.

Yes, personally using the /reloadui command in trials or pvp helps. Not everytime; but it does.

That's what I was wondering too, since Homestead or the patch after I noticed some new issue with the game getting choppy after some time (so I have to reload UI every so often). This is in PVE.

Never had this issue till now so would be awesome if some Devs could go fishing around the code they updated and find out what the problem is.

I don't have fps issues, it's just choppiness after some time. Though if I left it and didn't reload UI all the time I probably would start to notice reduced fps I guess.

I've been getting pure Ping problems. FPS stays up and Ping hits 3000 and higher.

It should not really matter where you are, one of usual symptoms is, that FPS gradually declines, then the game might crash as well when the memory is filled with enough undumped stuff. Sometimes you can also see it by inspecting clients memory usage while playing, if the memory usage rises grradually, it can be of memory leak.

/reloadui would not help on traditional memory leak i mean, but it can help, if one is running an addon that is not well coded or includes a bug. Addons are reloaded when using /reloadui.

I play on PC. /reloadui does not help, i have to completely restart the game to get the FPS back to good numbers. Closing launcher does not help on my case.

It was confirmed late feb that there was a memory leak in a thread in the bug forums...I'll see if I can find it.

I haven't noticed my memory filling up though (neither RAM nor GPU memory) so wouldn't call whatever is happening a memory leak. Haven't been able to pinpoint what's going on either - run through addons to check and it's not them, so the problem seems to be in the fundamental game code.

I've tweaked the setting.ini file and it's freed up tons of FPS :) I also close the launcher after launching the game and that helps a lot :)

I only use the launcher one time after an update to allow the update to load. Then I close it down and open the game by using the eso.exe file. I got in the habit of doing that on my old computer because the game wouldn't work if I used the launcher. My new computer works with the launcher, but why use it if there is a chance it is causing any problems or performance issues?

I always use eso.exe not the launcher and issue happens, so we can't blame the launcher for this one.

I lose FPS over time as well. It's stupid.

    Tweaked how exactly?

Also, I've got memory leak-related crashes a few times, not often or regularly. For some time now I've been using the exe file to start the game.

I don't know . For the last week I have run the game on completely maxed graphics and seen a steady FPS between 35-40 FPS . I experience lag spikes that lower FPS and raise ping temporarily .

I have also tweaked the usersettings.ini to get some more FPS but this is not an issue i am now getting while playing. The FPS is not bad all the time, it is almost 100 sometimes when i start the game, then i can stand in the same place for and hour or two and the FPS can be as low as 10. Full restart of the game helps, nothing else.

There is no launcher open, open launcher should not bloat the client anyways but still its not active. I also use the executable to run the game.

The gradual FPS loss looks like a meory leak to me, also the clients memory usage increases over time in proportion to FPS loss.

There is also another issue making sudden FPS drops which is not related to memory leak but actually to the number of players allowed on each instance of the current location. The game seems to allow way too many players on one instance, the FPS could be greatly improved by cutting the size of the instances to half.

I don't know enough about games to say whether it is a memory leak or not, but I have noticed from time to time since summer 2014 occasions where my fps drops over a period of time and goes back up if I restart the client.

EDIT: only seems to occur in Cyrodiil, and more recently it seems to go back up by itself without having to restart client.

Usually my FPS sits around 45, but when in more populated areas, it repeatedly drops to zero over and over again until I leave.

I do not think a poll was really needed for this unless one just likes to create polls for the heck of it.

There has been a memory leak with ESO for over 2 years. Restarting the client every couple of hours is doing anything serious is a good idea.

Most tweaks have a minimal impact on FPS (I personally haven't noticed any difference, and I've applied every possible tweak). You'll get the biggest boost by dropping view distance, but at the expense of the game world looking barren.

    take out the word "currently"...<g>

actually I'm convinced of it...until recently I had been playing on a good machine, but a few years old & showing its age. It's a 2nd gen i7, with 8gb of memory, and I had what appeared to be a lot of leakage. Now, my new machine is a 7th gen i7 with 32gb and it takes longer now, but the same thing happens...so yeah, I think there's a pretty significant memory leak...but that's just my opinion

...further, my symptoms are less related to fps and ping, which are numeric indicators of what's happening, but more with the increasing choppiness & latency that I actually experience as the time go by when I'm playing. My fps and ping seem to bounce up & down frequently, and they don't appear to have a significant correlation with the choppiness & latency that I experience...go figure...anyway like I said, with the newer machine and more RAM, it takes longer to start getting choppy but it's still happening to a lesser degree...
