I'm curious to see some of the answers as well. The great thing about ESO PvP is that it's mostly open world, and in general has the feel of a greater goal than building personal e-peen. If you want to build your skill and present yourself with a real challenge, Cyrodiil is where it's all at. It's super surprising how many people don't even want to give it a chance.
Just take the time to read most of the PvP threads on these forums and you'll see one reason people are put off it. The community is hostile an abusive to many.
I agree with what ADarklore said, whilst I have done PvP and enjoyed it and still do to some extent, I want to come back from work and relax, not be stressed out by the plethora of issues PvP has or the hostility of some in the PvP community.

It works both ways. The majority of forum PvPers are the elitist (just as the majority of PvEers in the forums).

You shouldn't base anything off of what the small percentage of ppl that use the forums think.

PvEers can be just as abusive but pretend they're not.

Ever been in a group that kicked someone because they were subpar and continued to do crappy stuff to get your group wiped? I've seen that happen plenty. And you don't think that that person was upset over that?

People that prefer PvP are the same as ppl that prefer PvE, they just have separate gaming preferences. I made this thread to figure out why.

    See my previous post.

Edit. Also "PvE players are just as bad" doesn't make PvP any better or a reason for people to join.

General PvE you don't openly come to meet the toxic side of PvE, however PvP places you in a zone and chat where those members are and have to directly deal with them.

Do you turn your zone chat off in PvE zones, or just not look at it..?

I don't like pvp because I just suck against other players. In PvE I do great, and I really enjoy it. But no matter what gear I use, how I spec, make my build, where I put my CP, it doesn't matter. I don't last more than 20 seconds against anyone in Cyrodiil. And it's not for lack of trying, I've played since first beta and dabbled in PvP several times. Been through various different builds with every class and it just never works out. And then when I do lose horribly, the PvP players just constantly insult and laugh at you. It's not an enjoyable experience. In PvE everyone seems to want to help each other because they need to work together to succeed

Are you on xboxNa by any chance? I would be more than happy to help you increase your survivability.

The lack of skill needed in current PvP bores me. I like to communicate with a group to achieve a goal. Since PvP breaks down to afk-ing, zerging or AP trading at alessia Bridge/bleakers , I have no reason to go there...

I actually like duelling. However I will teabag the average proc Set stacker after killing him once and never duell him again. It' s just boring.
Using destro ult or proc sets in duells is cheating yourself and not respecting a clean and even fight.

TP,dr: Cheese Meta and lack of objective gaming is boring.

Zone chat isn't really the kind of abuse most people dislike about PvP. Zone chat can be hostile and offensive in both, but normally in PvP it's group form ups, intel or that one guy ranting about the FOTM rant.

The issue is when you get whispers and tells from people about how you suck, or you hack, or cheat etc. How when you die players use visual smack talk (teabagging etc.)

There is a whole element of psychogical PvP that happens in Cyrodiil because a lot of players get kicks out of making others unhappy, not focusing on just the PvP side of the game.
And there are players who I fully understand don't want to deal with that. They want something relaxing, to do alone or with some friends where the chance of being told they suck is minimal.

Yes one can go-offline/turn off zone/ignore it etc. but that's not an argument for the fact PvP can be a very hostile place to players.

    Why?

Everyone that I've introduced into PvP that was very against it, turned out to not being against it at all. By introduced I mean I helped them to know what to expect and how to respond and what skills are needed to help emerge victorious.

Secondly, I have always been a adamant PvPer, but still enjoy "endgame" type pve. I spend 95% of my time PvPing, yet receive compliments in pve often, and I attribute that to the skills I've used and learned in PvP. Without PvP I don't believe I would be as good as I am in PvE.

It's no secrect that pvp'ers make the best pve'ers.

The situational awareness, on the fly thinking, and quickly reacting, etc. all directly translates to pve content.

If you took 11 CP 600 fully geared PVE only players into Cyrodiil with 1 good PVP guide to lead them they would get destroyed more often than not.

If you started a vet trial with 11 CP 600 PVP only players with 1 good PVE guide they would complete the dungeon and possibly do it with a speed run.

I would have no problem taking a trial down with just PVP only heavy armor Magplars.

I have too much fun in PvE and there are too many things to do to really want to do any PvP.

I have dabbled in PvP and the experience leaves me ambivalent. I think a lot of this view comes from the whole campaign thing and the difficulties in changing it. The layout and how long it takes to get to any action really leaves me cold. In PvE, I can load up a character and be doing something in seconds. For PvP, I have to select a campaign, wait for the pop locks to let me in, then ride for a long time to get to the action, then when I want to leave, I have to spend a lot of time to get to the exit. Basically, I spend more time getting to and away from the PvP than I do actually PvPing.

I also don't feel the need to compete against other players. Which is why I have Auto Decline on Duels turned on. This seems to really upset some other players when I don't want to duel them.

Quite frankly, I would love a Cyrodiil PvE instance so I can go there and quest and explore, even with the huge distances between things.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I have 30,000 PVP kills and have gotten about 3 rage messages ever. Who are these people that are so mean? This always cracks me up.

Is this a PC thing? Are you the guy who isn't listening to your crown? Were you telling stories about your science teacher while someone was trying to get 18 people to siege Chalman keep?

In truth, I solo more now than ever because I'm tired of playing with people who give up at the first sign of trouble.

PvP 3 years never got hate mail or whispers ever. I also don't run in groups maybe that's it :/

I get the "bags" a lot but laugh it off and respawn.

Like others have said in this thread it's more pve is predictable and easy to learn. PvP is on the fly you don't know what's going to happen or when, you need better reactive skills. Same reason why new player are bad in dungeons while longer playing player are better at them, when you done something a million times you know exactly what's going to happen at exactly what time.

I have no interest in any PvP content in any game. The primary problem with PvP is that it doesn't bring anything constructive to the table. With PvE and Co-Op content you work together with others towards a collective goal - everyone is rewarded and everyone learns to work together. No one complains that someone's build is "OP" or "unfair" because the group's goal is to finish the content and everyone is going to get a reward. Co-Op (PvE) is CONSTRUCTIVE. You BUILD people up in PvE.

However, with PvP nothing is gained by others participating in the content, only one person at most gets anything at all - chiefly a shallow ego boost and for what? Do you have such low self-worth that the only way you can justify yourself to the world is to beat on others? PvP at its core in ANY game is DESTRUCTIVE, content that devolves into animals tearing each other apart over a f*** percentage.

Now, the problem is specifically with Cyrodiil and the terrible attempt to put PvE content in PvP. That's the big issue for most players. We mostly want to quest in peace, complete achievements and hunt skyshards in peace. Some of us even go out of our way to AVOID combat, sneaking halfway across the map just so we can be left alone. No one enjoys that. The best solution is to put a "Pre-War" Cyrodiil with only PvE allowed (not even duels) and then keep the "Alliance War" Cyrodiil with PvP. Next, the changes to abilities in PvP should be governed by the Battle Spirit buff and PvE content should be isolated from these changes.

People who are against separating PvP and PvE are the immature children that need to hurt others to have self-worth. By providing the option to engage in PvP and separating its "balance" changes, no one is harmed by ether side of the table. Isolation is the solution to Cyrodiil.

Latency, input lag, and animation cancelling are my main deterrents. "git gud" "get better internetz nub" "upgrade your potatoe!"...please stop, turning a blind eye to issues helps no one. I have had some enjoyable time spent in PvP and I can't say I dislike it. But the issues I listed eventually outweigh the good and I get frustrated and leave. I made sure to get some time in during the PvP event and do my part to supply them with data. I really enjoyed my time out there when the fighting was good and the game was responsive. I didn't get as much time as I'd like but in the few hours I participated I crashed 4 times...seemingly always minutes before taking a keep. Hopefully they can improve things.

    This.

    Is the problem...

You openly admit you refuse to PvP yet have such a "sure opinion" about it. Against it rather.

Good pvpers absolutely work together, and even more so then I've ever seen in my pve experience.

It's required for success. Unless of course you really are elite and can 1vX consistently, in which case go you /applaud.

Please, if you don't pve that is fine, and your reasons are your reasons and I won't take that from you.

However, don't regurgitate something you heard from someone who talked to someone who PvPed once... it's toxic, and utterly untrue.

The absolute best experiences in PvP come from a well communicated group.

Cause people enjoy trashing things they are not familiar with or good at. 90% of PVPers are good, fun people same as 90% of PVErs.

It's easier just to avoid things and blame monsters in the closet then it is to take your lumps and get better.

For example: I'm in 5 different guilds. My friends guild with 10 people and my trade guild don't really count. The other 3 are a PVP guild and two PVE guilds. The majority of the PVE guild players, when the topic of PVP comes up respond "why would you ever even step foot in that place" and usually add that they tried it once or twice but died a lot and never came back.

Also, PVE only players tend to be absurdly unself aware. Please note the daily posts on this forum started by PVE players complaining about PVP players getting PVE skills nerfed even though the nerfs are directed at PVE and the complaining comes significantly more from the PVEr side.

this.^ I was about to say something similar until I saw this. A lot of PvEers base their PvP opinions off of a couple hours spent in Cyrodil or IC when they got beat down by gankers and toxic builds. And then they jump on the hate bandwagon. They get frustrated and give up because there are no set mechanics to learn. PvP is dynamic and changes constantly depending on who and where you are fighting. I hated PvP at first too, until I got bored with PvE and really gave it a try.

Did pvp then I played back then we had veteran ranks and they removed the forward camps.
Had lots of fun including some of the most memorable ESO events.
Not so much pvp in current guilds and too much to do.

As I understand the camps are back, without them its pretty hopeless to go without an group with friends to res you.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Most being the keyword.

Your group understands the value of teamwork, and how crucial it is to PvP success. You should convince them to do an experiment; PvP for a week or two religiously and then see if their pve skills seemingly increase.

I've been PVP'ed twice. My toon got murdered a few times. It was all good to me. No butt hurt comments other than "wow that was quick!". Zone chat was funny too. I like it there - one day I'm going to attempt a PVP "build-out" and add this to the list of fun things to do in ESO.

I'd PVP and get my toon murdered over and over any day (while learning more and more about...PVP) as opposed to the soulless, mind numbing grind that is alikir's dolmen rings, skyreach catacombs , <fill in the blank> .

And really, who cares if their toon gets teabagged? Really, seriously, who cares. Pixels on a screen. Someone bothering you in whispers and zone. Ignore them! Done.

I can understand not liking some of the toxic players that exist in both PvP and PvE, but not like playing against a real person is kind of a strange excuse. Games since the beginning of time whether a board game like checkers or a card game like Go Fish have pitted real players against real players. I have made more friends in PvP than in PvE oddly enough.
And those that enjoy PvP the most are those that do play with a guild most of the time planning and cooperating just like in PvE.

However PvP players lack the understanding of PvE mechanics or builds. I've taken "only PvP" players to PvE before and they had no idea how to actually get a high and sustained DPS because they were so used to short burst combat or environmental defensive combat (line of sight).

Hardly. I'm willing to bet that if most were to watch a video or read up on the mechanics of a fight that could execute it wonderfully. Actually knowing a fight's mechanics can be vital to actually beating something. Same when it comes to class builds for dps.

I mean come on. If a person pvp's all day and rarely does pve content, of course they are going to suck pretty bad if thrust into it. The exact same could be said tossing pve players into pvp. They're going to get eaten alive!

Don't mistake a lazy person that refuses to do a bit of reading or research with someone who simply doesn't know something. This directly translates to both pvp and pve interchangeably.

The uninformed can be taught and informed, but there is no helping the lazy ones.

I am just trying to make the counter point to "all PvP lpayers are great PvE players as if the reverse is not true.

A good player is a good player as you say, it's going to be down the each players ability and one form of gameplay will not make a better player than another, they'll have strengths in different areas and different levels of ability to adapt.

Desto ulti + Constant crashes + AP farms everywhere

I used to love playing casual PvP. The crashes used to bother me A LOT, but the rest was good.

Then came the Destro Ullti and every fight now there is a group that only backs away, build ultis, bombs, repeat.

And lately, 8 out of 10 times I tried to PvP the map was completely stale. Nobody was doing anything. 80 blues were are Sejanus farming yellows, 80 yellows at Bleakers farming blues and 80 EPs at the last emp keep farming everyone.

Never was a serious PvPer but went there 2 or 3 times a week, every week. Now it is so boring that I go months without entering Cyrodiil and, when I do, is usually just to get Vigor / Warhorn / Caltrops in an alt.

    I seldom PvP because...

    1. People using bugged out/Maximum meta cheese sets.
    2. Zerging is bad. Every faction does it, and is even worse when people zerg AND used bugged out cheese sets.
    3. Spies and unkillable Cheaters. Get a life.
    4. Horse Simulator

I pvp a lot and agree with this lol

Well of course not all. That goes without saying.

I'm not competitive. I have autodecline turned on for duels. I don't care if someone else can kill my character. About the only reason I go to Cyrodiil is to craft set gear for guildmates.

I honestly don't see the point in pvp. Congratulations. You have a build set up for pvp, you're geared up for pvp, and you killed my character that isn't set up for pvp, isn't min/maxed for anything, and wears crafted gear. Not to mention I don't bother to fight back. I don't care if you can kill me or not. I just want to be able to go make armor for someone. I'm interested in playing the game, not competing with other players, who, from the ones I've encountered on the occasions I've gone to Cyrodiil, are just a hair off from rabid psychopaths. I've had people try to tell me that the player who killed me over and over again in IC the last time I went there, just outside the crafting station door was looking for a good fight. Personally, I rather doubt that. The player waited until I survived a fight with the daedra before attacking, you know, when you're low on health/magic/stamina because you've been fighting? Second hint; I put my weapons away and didn't fight back. Even if the player missed the clues the first three times he killed me, he should have figured it out by the 4th time. I wasn't going to fight, period. I guess he finally got bored with blocking the crafting station because the 5th time he didn't bother to attack me. I made the gear, left the station and got killed so I could get out of there.

That might be fun for some types of players, but me? No. Not really. I wholeheartedly agree with Nestor. I would cheerfully support a pvp only server for the people who want to pvp all the time. Especially if that meant a pve only instance of Cyrodiil that I could go and pve/explore/actually have fun in without the pvpers to ruin the fun.

I'm against proc sets, lag and the giant map, otherwise pvp is cool. To avoid all those issues I just duel people who don't use proc sets...much more enjoyable.
