Guys, how in the world do you place books inside of your bookshelves and bookcases that you've crafted? Because honestly, I'm completely confused about that whole aspect of Homestead.

Also, how does a person go about placing paintings so that they sit flush with the wall. Rather than sticking out from it, and appearing to levitate with no support anywhere.

Furniture placement really requires a bit of practice and virtual spacial perception.
After a bit of practice, you'll become more accustomed to it and learn how to place objects quickly.

A "Snap to grid", "Align to Object", and a "Group/UnGroup" object(s) feature would be really nice though.

    Common problems:
Some objects take up more "invisible space" than others; blocks actually occupy the entire space for which they can be rotated upon all axes, thus you cannot move your character "through" gaps that appear to exist between solid objects; (stones for example) even though you should be able to.

Some objects are not totally flat or evenly consistent, even though they should be, (carpets, rugs, wooden floor panels, etc...) and their meshes will clip through other objects that are allegedly dragged to their "surface".
The only way around this visually is to disable surface dragging and manually adjust their height via perspective movement.
For precise movements, first person view is ideal.

Some objects are solid even though they shouldnt be; some tapestries and rugs are impassible, while others you can move right through.

Yeah turn off surface dragging, go into first person... then you gotta just play with it a bit.

@OmniDo By a chance, would you happen to know of a way to greatly increase lighting inside of a home? I mean sure placing candles about can help, as well as chandeliers. But, I'm noticing there's still plenty of areas of darkness. Where as I'd like things to be more well lit. What can I do to really brighten up my home?

try placing some hidden candles in walls and ceilings, this increases light overall.

The lighting systems in the game are variable but finite.
What this means is that candles will produce <x> amount of light in a "radius" from their center, and then sharply taper off to ambient light level very quickly.
I suspect this is by design, as lighting and shading are the most gpu-expensive tasks to do, in that they require lots of calculation to be accurate.

Some lights however have much larger radii; certain braziers, etc... that follow the same rules as above, but will cover more area before they taper off, resulting in the illusion of "brighter" lighting.
Theres no way around this limitation yet, since Zenimax hasnt allowed us to place invisible light sources.
You can "Cheat" though by placing certain static light sources, crystals of various colors for example, inside objects.
They will still emit their light, but the objects themselves will be essentially invisible, hidden inside the objects you place them in.

Select your light source or object, then toggle surface dragging off.
Then just aim your object, or right-click on the floor to align it to you, then scroll your mouse wheel or just move in the direction you want.
With surface dragging off, the object(s) will clip right through walls and other objects.

Be careful though, once inside a wall, the only way to retrieve the object is with the retrieve function.

you can drag stuff into walls, but if you want them back again you have to go into the retrieve tab. But yes you can move the candles into the walls

LOL, use half an hour trying to place books, then go outside and see how much you dps on the training dummy increases.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Carpets are worse, cuz I just discovered that the floor upstairs in Mournoth Keep is uneven :( So it's either floating carpets or pieces of the floor sticking thru it

Yeah, thats another reason why you have to turn surface dragging off and manually "nudge" them slightly above the floor until the clipped stone disappears.

I usually put a wide plank under the carpet, that way your feet won't sink into it.

Yeah, at least you are not going to accidentally touch a fork and send every object nearby flying everywhere.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Skyrim was way worse as objects was lifted from some sort of center of gravity, not from the point you grabbed.
Oblivion: grab an sword by hilt and the tip will point downward, tip and hilt will point down.
Skyrim did not matter, more fun that some items was illogical, the Diabela statue I had was lifted by the bottom making it impossible to place.
