The video above shows a Templar tank main tanking Hard Mode Rakkhat (the PoV is of the DK off tank).
Templar tanks are undoubtedly viable for group content, even the ones that "matter". Good play, like the one above, is also equally a testament to a player's raid awareness, class selection being only one part of the equation.

This 100 times. Class/race selection is only a part of what goes into making a good tank. It's definitely true that there are combinations of class and race that are easier, or bring more of particular utility to groups; but ultimately it comes down to the individual skill of the player whether or not a particular build is going to work, even taking the same build from one player to another or from one group to another.
A bad tank is going to be bad regardless of what class they're playing, just as a good tank will be able to successfully take a more experimental approach to finding viable ways of accomplishing the same goal: holding aggro without dying, and providing your group with the things they need to accomplish their goal. That said, there are certainly benefits of choosing one class over another when it comes to the ease of doing those things, but each class is perfectly capable of doing the same things as any other class: to 1) stay alive while holding aggro, 2) provide synergy with your group, and 3) have fun playing the game. But it's never the class or racial choice that will make or break a tank build, only the skill of the tank.
Also, as the templar tank in the above video I feel compelled to attach this screenshot as additional proof that it can be done:

Ive tried and tried to get that ive farmed for months fo rit it never drops... i got the shields but both were impen trait sadly.... I finally gave up... in fact on all these new one tamriel sets ive finally given up farming for the swords and shields they are so hard to get its ridiculous... there are ways around it but i prefer making my sword shield rings and neck the same 5 traits and having my body pieces all the same as well..
Any one else with good trial stam templar tank builds?
My apologies. Was at work so I was shooting off a dusty brain. The swords are Tavos. Shield and Jewelry are Witchman and then the belt is Witchman to complete the 5-1-1 since Witchman only comes in Medium.

Ive gone full heavy and like the tankyness of it
But im open to the suggestion of going back to a 5 1 1 set up.. keep in mind im more of a stam tank... and relying on perma block pretty much and weaving in light and heavy attacks while i throw down my buffs and debuffs...
That said where did you get your witchman shield?... did you get it from the public dungeon ?... thats where i got my impen shields

Gloves are light since Tava's is crafted.
As for the shields, lots of farming in the Rift off of World Bosses. You can find them on guild vendors as well. My front bar (mob control) shield is divine while my tank bar is reinforced. I do wish they sold "shield skins".. the shield is down right ugly. Or at least change the look.
