Advice on necropotence and if it's worth it

Hi all

My current set up for pve is 5 julianos, 5 lich and 2 ilbramis. I'm on 41k magicka, 2700 spell damage, 62% crit ( all buffed) and regen isn't an issue with lich. Im currently farming infalliable aether.

I've tried all other options than julianos (burn spell etc) but I get a massive amount of damage and sustain on this build. A lot of people seem to be using necropotence and I wondered if it's worth it and would it get any more damage than now?
Thanks in advance!

NecroPotence is worth it provide you run at least one pet. But you also need a stuff for when pets die to boss mechanics. Id advise to keep another set for "safety"

Firstly I'll state by saying if you are playing trials even normal and running pets it will probably enrage a few people since pets can take aggro off the Tank and mess things up. I've been in many trial groups where the leaders have kicked MagSorc DD's out because their pets were causing utter chaos. That being said it depends how you play, I personally like Lich as well but sometimes the sustain is overkill and in a dungeon environment there is usually more than enough synergies and buffs going on to keep you sustained, even more so in a trials environment. This is really dependent on the group you are in though, some are way better than others. So if you prefer the damage output of Julianos then I would drop lich for a 5 piece Necropotence but that would only really allow you one monster piece set since you can't run it on the back bar exclusively like Lich. Overall, I'd say it's worth keeping on Necropotence on your character. I am in a comparable situation regarding my Stam DK DPS, I am farming for VO and Twice Fanged Snake so I run Hundings because I like the overall damage but I also carry around a 5 piece Night Mother's Gaze set in my inventory in case I need it for groups, so you could do something similar. So that all being said you have to ask yourself:

1.) Do I want to run Pets? If no, scratch Necro completely.
2.) Do I have room on my bars to double bar a Pet? If no, scratch Necro completely
3.) Is Lich a viable piece of my sustain? If yes, scratch for now but you have some other options.

If you answered "No" to the first two then completely disregard Necropotence, it is not worth running and will cause you a big headache and probably a DPS loss. If you answered "yes" to the third question you could still try 5 piece Necro with 5 piece Seducer and see if you like that setup. If you answered yes to the first two and no to the second then yeah I'd probably drop Lich for Necropotence if you like the summoner playstyle but keep Lich in your inventory in case the pets cause issues.

PVP is more simple, yes Necropotence is viable but only for the extra magic. Pets wander and rarely help towards kills. PVP usually gear more towards sustain and damage so you'll probably want to run Seducer and witch mother's potent brew.

In terms of PvE and PvP gearing for Necro you'd probably want to do 1 Body, both weapon bars and 3 jewelry that will give you the 5 piece. Then use Magicka recovery glyphs on the jewelry and swap them out for spell damage if you feel your sustain is easily manageable.

TL;DR: Yes it can be viable in PvE depending on your group. I'd keep it in your inventory and swap Lich out for it. That way if your group asks you to not use pets for whatever reason you at least can swap back to Lich.

A lot of crap in your post man. The only reason to not run familiar on a Magsorc on homestad patch is because it gets kille by mechanics, like Twins i vMoL. The pet damage is absurdly high. If you are in a trial group where you get kicked because of using pets you're probably in a noob group.

OP, Necropotence is great when you are able to keep the pet up. Better carry another set with you (BSW would be the best one, but use the Julianos one you have if you don't have BSW) if the pet keeps dying.

With good sustain group support (drain, orbs etc.) you should swap out Lich for 4 piece Aether or Moondancer if you can get your hands of it, you mentioned you farmed it.

Could have simply said you disagree with parts instead of telling me my response was crap. I was speaking from personal experience when running trials some people get mad. That's all I was saying, to make him aware. I didn't say don't run pets cuz they are garbage. I was just saying things I witnessed. I was unaware that pets got a damage buff, I knew their resistances were buffed but not their damage. My bad.

I have been running 5pc necropotence, 5pc elegant, 1pc molag kena for the past week, it's actually been very relaxing.. i am farming for infallible in place of elegance, but until then this gets 21k dps on test dummy without having to weave or cancel, and without orbs, ele drain or anyone elses buffs. Aoe an heavy attacks for the win lol

@Vildebill has the right answer. I run 4moondancer/5necro/2illambris 90% of the time, and it's absurd damage. I got self buffed 43k on dummy. When pet isn't viable, swap necro for BSW. I have both sets and skills alpha geared, so I can change on the fly.

@Vildebill yes I'm farming Aether now but it's a pain getting jewelry, I will def use once i get it . I could easily put a pet on skill bar I just don't know if 5 necro potence will do more damage than 5 julianos with divines

If that was recently, then you have been in very bad raid groups. Pets arent viable in all fights as certain boss mechanics will kill them, but there is no reason not to take them into a raid. You just need to know where you can and cant use them. They have overhauled the priority systems, so players get buff heal priorities over pets. Pet DPS is VERY strong right now.

As to the OP: If you are running pets, Necro is where its at. In practice, it would replace your julianos. In other words, when you run pets, you wear Necro, when you dont you wear julianos (or better yet, BSW).

You bigger issue if you are trying to pull DPS, DITCH THE LICH. Lich has no place in PVE group content. It is way overkill on regen. Nobody is pulling competitive DPS with that set in PVE. In PVP, its arguably the meta.

Edit: Also, stop farming Infal and farm moondancer. Since they nerfed crit, moondancer is noticeably better. In the meantime, use willpower.

run BSW and ilambris and willpower/aether/ moondancer ... it's more damage than Julianos/ Lich.

If you have sustain issues, use Health/ mag recovery drink instead of health/ mag food.

Thanks all for the comment. I've nearly got a set of BSW with all best traits so will try that and also farm a set of necromancer and give them both a go
