A lot of crap in your post man. The only reason to not run familiar on a Magsorc on homestad patch is because it gets kille by mechanics, like Twins i vMoL. The pet damage is absurdly high. If you are in a trial group where you get kicked because of using pets you're probably in a noob group

Could have simply said you disagree with parts instead of telling me my response was crap. I was speaking from personal experience when running trials some people get mad. That's all I was saying, to make him aware. I didn't say don't run pets cuz they are garbage. I was just saying things I witnessed. I was unaware that pets got a damage buff, I knew their resistances were buffed but not their damage. My bad.
Firstly I'll state by saying if you are playing trials even normal and running pets it will probably enrage a few people since pets can take aggro off the Tank and mess things up. I've been in many trial groups where the leaders have kicked MagSorc DD's out because their pets were causing utter chaos. That being said it depends how you play, I personally like Lich as well but sometimes the sustain is overkill and in a dungeon environment there is usually more than enough synergies and buffs going on to keep you sustained, even more so in a trials environment. This is really dependent on the group you are in though, some are way better than others. So if you prefer the damage output of Julianos then I would drop lich for a 5 piece Necropotence but that would only really allow you one monster piece set since you can't run it on the back bar exclusively like Lich. Overall, I'd say it's worth keeping on Necropotence on your character. I am in a comparable situation regarding my Stam DK DPS, I am farming for VO and Twice Fanged Snake so I run Hundings because I like the overall damage but I also carry around a 5 piece Night Mother's Gaze set in my inventory in case I need it for groups, so you could do something similar. So that all being said you have to ask yourself:
1.) Do I want to run Pets? If no, scratch Necro completely.
2.) Do I have room on my bars to double bar a Pet? If no, scratch Necro completely
3.) Is Lich a viable piece of my sustain? If yes, scratch for now but you have some other options.
If you answered "No" to the first two then completely disregard Necropotence, it is not worth running and will cause you a big headache and probably a DPS loss. If you answered "yes" to the third question you could still try 5 piece Necro with 5 piece Seducer and see if you like that setup. If you answered yes to the first two and no to the second then yeah I'd probably drop Lich for Necropotence if you like the summoner playstyle but keep Lich in your inventory in case the pets cause issues.
PVP is more simple, yes Necropotence is viable but only for the extra magic. Pets wander and rarely help towards kills. PVP usually gear more towards sustain and damage so you'll probably want to run Seducer and witch mother's potent brew.
In terms of PvE and PvP gearing for Necro you'd probably want to do 1 Body, both weapon bars and 3 jewelry that will give you the 5 piece. Then use Magicka recovery glyphs on the jewelry and swap them out for spell damage if you feel your sustain is easily manageable.
TL;DR: Yes it can be viable in PvE depending on your group. I'd keep it in your inventory and swap Lich out for it. That way if your group asks you to not use pets for whatever reason you at least can swap back to Lich.
