Khajiit would be happy to see many little kittens in Tamriel.

The little ones are so useful yes, do not need much fish and can easily be trained to avoid the guards.

Don't worry, Skyrim thaught us all that you can't kill kids, but that they are smart enough to hire assassins from the Dark Brotherhood. So don't do anything bad when there's kids around.

Children? That sounds like some uncontrollable, annoying creature that screams its lungs out and throws tantrums.

    Nope, no want that.
Kids in Skyrim was horrible in Whiterun and Riverwood, cool everywhere else.
Same as Whiterun and Riverwood was in you face following you into your house to say their one liner.
First zones and they wanted to make memorable NPC.
Kids would add to the atmosphere, had been fun with kits from other races.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

How would that be different from vendors and other unkillable NPCs?
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I don't care one way or the other . It would be just more NPCs to me . I don't see the big deal one way or another . Tons of games have them running around and I'm not sure if it makes the game anymore interesting or not .. If they were in game I would still pick pocket the brats .

It would at least make many quests in this game make more sense.

Right now, we have NPCs claiming other NPCs are children but you get to them and see that they look as old as their parents.

Most of the arguments against adding them can be applied to existing NPCs. We already have NPCs that are annoying for some but not for others. We already have unkillable NPCs - a lot of them.

There are tons of MMOs with children and they are fine. I imagine lots of people here never played these MMOs.

If it makes your game better , I'm not opposed . Most of the quests that mention NPC children say "my son is in trouble" or my daughter needs assistance " and that doesn't mean anything age wise to me . Many people have children the call son or daughter that are all grown but they are still sons and daughters . None of the quests I've been through say "my little boy" or my little girl . But if you think it would add more to your game or make a quest make more sense , I really don't mind if they add them . I just enjoy the game now and don't see any issues currently .

Oh hey @Abeille , I just remembered when I was finishing up Mad Max , there was a child in the adventure and it did add to the game . I was recording the game and I remember in that part I had to rescue one . It was pretty intense and added a bit of ergency to the mission . If they did somethings like that , I could see the added value . Here the footage . The part where you rescue the kid is towards the end .

Bethesda was strangely paranoid about players hurting 'children' - i.e. pixels on a screen - in their games.

You could commit all sorts of ghastly crimes but hurting unreal children was regarded as beyond the pale. You couldnt even discuss it on their forums.

I guess this hang-up exists here too. Maybe its an American thing?

I know I'd enjoy blasting some npc brats to oblivion.

Again kids outside of Whiterun and Riverwood is cool, you can even play tag with them.
They was created with annoying personalities for "reasons", other don't have the hand crafted annoying personalities.
Kids in Fallout 4 are also pretty nice.

Why not have kittens - and yes children and little lizards too - as potential housing based NPCs?

This way those who want them get them and they will not be running around all over Tamriel bothering anyone else.

I dislike children in life. Had to endure them living near a daycare center for fifteen years, as a person who very much appreciated peace and quiet... and the mental scars never really healed. :p;)

But I like immersion in games, and an "all adult" tamriel just doesn't feel "alive" to me... so I would like a few children or teenager NPCs running around in safe cities, or being present for those "deal with the lost kid" quests... as long as they don't get -too annoying-...

No thanks. An odd teen(see: dark brotherhood) or child here or there is fine, but all over the place I can only imagine it amounting to more immortal npcs with potentially extra-grating voices. Immortal for no good reason at that, unless somehow every child is also a quest giver or somesuch.

As a game world, all of the TES games share the same problem. Not enough children. Even Skyrim.

But, children require a lot of development effort. Child sized bodies. Child clothes. Child voices. Special animations, since they are doing things that adults might not do. Placement. Etc. If they are for more than just backdrop, then they have to make quests and special dialogs, along with anything else unique to interactions. Children could easily be a Chapter in the game. That is how big something like this could get.

Children also add social problems. The issue of players killing children has no compromise, so if they allow it, or don't, there will be a contingent that very strongly disapproves. Beyond that, you get into the issues of whether children should bear witness to crimes, or ignore them. The have to decide whether children should be in certain places, why they are there, and what their parents are thinking by letting them be there. All of these sorts of things have the potential for being contentious, possibly in a very large and noticeable way.

Frankly, as much as Tamriel, the game world, needs children, my thinking is that they should not add them to the game.

Frankly, as much as Tamriel, the game world, needs children, my thinking is that they should not add them to the game.

In this game in particular, it is not that complicated. The character creator, with the exception of the height slider, has the capabilities to make very young-looking female characters (and males for some races). They wouldn't have to make entire new models. And being the regular bodies but with a different scale, the same animations would be applied to them. Hildegard is already shorter than the shortest available height for Nord females btw.

Regarding voice acting, it is not different from hiring a new voice actor for a new character in a new DLC.

As for people whining because they can't kill children, they will get over it like in every MMO that has children.

They would also most likely be kept in cities only, except for the few of them that are supposed to be part of quests, but it wouldn't be different from adding a new quest. On the existing quests, it would be a matter of replacing one character model plus the voice over. There are only like three or four quests in need of that anyway. It would barely be a TG-sized addition, let alone a Chapter-sized one.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.
