With the change to how fast jav is now, it makes no sense to use a gap closer as a Templar. Someone will attack you no matter what.
I can agree with that. Ive experimented without a gap closer when running 2h and dual. When Im running sword and shield I drop javelin for invasion. The stun from invasion allows a heavy attack pierce armor bash animation cancel to set up burst and debuff before going in with jabs.
Yea that makes sense for S+b, the extra armor+ impen (if you picked that trait) from the shield helps to offset any dmg you take during the animation anyway. On other weapons, you are slightly naked so it's better to take the poundings where you can at least react with blocks/heals/dodges.
I run 5 medium so the shield is reinforced for the extra mitigation from the CP passive.The Duke

Could never run without it personally....
Ive tried to run without it as well but my style is too aggressive to not initiate.
I wanna do dual wield, but I run reactive/pirates/viper right now, and would hate to give up my healing debuff with 1hd shield right now.

@LeifErickson ya know... I used to feel the same way, but now I tend to be more frustrated playing with. I don't have to be as choosy between that last needed skill, I don't have to worry about getting locked up in any animation, I don't have a dead skill spot when fighting outnumbered, since I'm usually the one being chased. Mdk gets by without one... And I can close the gap well enough with sprint and being an Orc.
