Master crafting writs

5 days on 5 Master crafters and nothing but a single master writ worth 6 vouchers. I'm done.

The reported drop rate is 10% for a character with many achievements in that skill (as in a smith who knows many, many motifs and has 9 traits researched). Then for a character that is level fifty smith without those achievements it's significantly less...I think some PC players who track it are saying 1-2%.

The system is designed to allow you to slowly add items to your home. If you could have seventeen attunable craft stations in five days, it'd be a pretty lame expansion, lol. Do the writs and give it time, or wait a while and you'll start to see those items pop up in guild stores.

First day with it yesterday and got 6 master writs from completing 70 max level daily writs, but only worth a combined 26 vouchers. I couldn't even do the largest reward one due to not knowing the motif, so only ended up with 20 vouchers.

I am only going to keep doing what I always have done and not focus on master writs - not really worth sacrificing anything else in the game for. I always do the daily writs most days anyway so I know I will get some in due course.

Define "Master crafter". It's not enough to be lvl 50, even in all six crafts. How many crafting achievements have you completed on those 5 Master crafters? I have one master crafter, i.e. 100% of crafting achievements. I'm averaging a writ every other day, yielding about 240 vouchers since Homestead launched. Writ drops increase the more you complete the crafting achievements.

Agreed, my main crafter (with 95% motifs known & all traits) is getting significantly more master writs than my 'average crafters' with 80% traits and 2-3 rare motif styles known. That said, there are still quite a few days when she gets 0 master writs. My 'average' crafters are all level 50, 10/10 and have all achievements for the crafts, just short a few traits and many motifs.

Not sure what you mean by 'Master Crafter'?
To me a 'Master Crafter' is a crafter who has all traits with all passives except hirelings/keen eye unlocked and has most styles learned. Simply having level 50 in the craft and 10/10 skill points assigned does not meet my definition of a 'Master Crafter.

agreed and achievements are often not too obvious...

provisioning - have you crafted on each one a blue and a purple food and drink?
enchanting - have you crafted a hajeiko glyph
have you improved a piece of gear thru all levels to gold in each craft?
have you harvested 10k nodes - not mats nodes?
have you crafted a gold glyph and out it own a gold piece of gear you also crafted?

    someone popped out a formula

general craft achievements % time specific craft achievement percentage times 50% and while the numbers may be off a smidge the general pattern of that seems to match what i have seen.

basically they knew what we know - its quick to get to level 50 in a craft and respec to fill in skills for it. So they used a wider variety of long term elements tied in with achievements to produce exponential swings in your chances as you get better.

Technically I only have 1 master crafter but even he must be deficient in motif knowledge as 2 of the 3 master clothing writs I have received, he does not know the motif for. He has learned every motif and recipe I have ever found and is the only one who has made purple and gold foods, drinks, potions, glyphs, armour and weapons.

I have 5 others doing max level writs and most of them would not have crafted anything beyond white level because they have only ever crafted to complete daily writs. Only one of them would have made anything stronger than white enchantment glyphs and none of them would have made anything other than green level food.

Only my master crafter is 9 trait, with 1 other at 8 traits, while the rest have learned very few traits at all. They have all only learned any 'hand me down' recipes and motifs that my master crafter already knows - so very few beyond blue.

In 3 days of writs on these 6 characters, my master crafter has only picked up 1 alchemy MW with 4 of the others sharing the other 6 I have received - 2 alchemy, 1 enchanting and 3 clothing.

I know it is only a very short sample but so far it doesn't indicate a bias towards my highest achieving crafting character.

Hoping someone can help me out. I had a very expensive master writ to do on a toon... I logged in to my main and crafted the set piece in gold wasting 8 dreugh wax. I hoped that I could send to a toon to complete the writ... no luck. My toon does not have the style recipe required for it.

Now I am wondering what happens if I abandon the writ quest on my toon? Does the writ go back into an item in your inventory or does it get destroyed? I am hoping to abandon and put the writ in the bank for my main obviously...

    Thank you in advance.

It gets destroyed. I learned that the same way

I have one character who has all of those except 10k nodes. He'd have about half of the motif achievements. Most days he gets no master writs. When he does get them most of the time they reward 6 writ vouchers.

Another character with fewer achievements (hasn't done the gear improvement or have all the enchanting achievements) and traits and almost no motifs gets the same 6 writ vouchers.

I've also been running about half a dozen characters on provisioning. All with all of the provisioning achievements but nowhere near all the recipes. So far only 1 writ which awarded something like 2 vouchers.

So far a grand total under 30.

Pretty sure you lose the writ.

My suggestion in that situation would be to save the writ and acquire the motif either buy farming it or finding one via guild traders.

As far as ZOS are concerned this is WAI.

Bottom line is that RNG trumps everything!

Many players I have spoken to, selling master writs, 100+ vouchers have a few traits researched and a few motifs learned.. the biggest master writ I've seen offered for sale was 301 vouchers, again from a player with a couple of traits and a couple of odd motifs learned.

Myself I have a fully decked out crafter, all traits researched all motifs fully learnt etc etc, and over the last two weeks I have received zero master writs; before that I did get a woodwork one 22 vouchers. In fact I have a higher drop rate of master writs off my other crafters which only have a small number or traits/motifs but nothing over 60odd vouchers.

So bottom line is that RNG rules, there is no fairness in Master Writs, traits researched, motifs known are swamped by the RNG code.

Good luck, I'm sure some of you will have great luck.. just remember this is WAI ZOS says so!
