Will ESO End Game be anything more than a weapons grind anytime in the forseeable future?

Molec

Yes there are veteran dungeons and trials but most of the people I know complete all of these far quicker than they aquire a full set of sharpened weapons for a single character.
Most of the desirable weapons are BOP and now seeing as almost anybody can complete the veteran content in this game the 'challenge' is the slot machine reward system for weapons.
Will the game ever present smart design choices that challenge end game players and not force them into a weapons grind?

Could you be any more dense? PVP is end game for those who wish to PVP, there is actually a large community who are here for end game PVE.

Can you not comprehend that some people might not like PvP, or even hate it likr the plague. How is it, in any shape or form, logical that PvP is the only true endgame in ESO? It's a load of bull that's what it is.

PvP in mmorpgs was made to keep players busy until more stuff comes out so yeah doing the same trial over and over again or gear grinds is going to get really boring. I love to play pve but when I'm done and have my gear I go back to pvp to stay busy and be a well rounded ESO player. I say the same thing to the people that just pvp 100% of the time and complain there is nothing to do bc they choose not to pve.

I mean, remove the weapons grind and what do you have left?
Zone quests, Zone Stories, Faction Stories, Guild Quest lines, Achievements, Titles, an in game Economy, Item Crafting, Housing, Guilds, Roleplaying, and probably a few more things.

End game can be different for people. You're a stat chaser, wanting the highest DPS, the best gear. While you can make do with non perfect traits and sets, if you're a min/maxer you gotta expect a grind of some kind. Otherwise everyone will just quickly get with the BiS gear and there'd not be as much build diversity or reason to use something different for the time being. Admittedly, In some cases I think there is too much a grind, such as with vMA, but with dropped sets from trials I think it's good as is now.

"End game" in MMO's appears to be the BiS grind for most, but as has been pointed out to you OP there are many other options, I've played that "end game" in other MMO's and I agree it's kinda repetitive.. And in the end futile! ESO offers more than that... The advise offered above is actually solid. ;)

For me I play this game so slowly that I have always enough to do because new content is released faster than i can finish this game. Still on the EP storyline, finished the other two. Haven't finished DB, have not done all the dungeons yet, or any of the trials.
Point is, and I dont know if you did but, some people just rush to the end in two weeks and say there is nothing to do.

Otherwise yeah for PvE it would be do some housing, try to get high scores on the leaderboards, get all the achievements. And there is PvP. If you don't want to do any of that maybe take a break until morrowwind?

Cyrodiil and Imperial city are far from half of the game... If you class running around in a group of 24 spamming AOE as 'Challenging End Game Content' then you will never understand what I'm talking about. I've competed in PVP for many many hours over the years and earned millions of AP & Telvar legitimately all whilst I was on my journey to level cap.. A huge portion of the end game is dedicated to grinding weapons, not the armor pieces as they drop plentiful in divines and it's by design. I've spent more hours in MoL and vMA than I have completing every quest in Tamriel and I've still got no Moondancer Sharpened weapons or vMA Sharpened inferno/lightning, that's literally hundreds if not pushing 1000 hours wasted for nothing of use.

So a few trials is most of the game?
Spamming AoEs and taking keeps is a very small part of pvp and looked down at from small scale groups 2-4 man pvping that's the challenge and fun in pvp is being well out number and being able to win.
I play both PvE and PvP I like both but to say end game is just a weapon grind means not experiencing the full game

There's an end-game? For me it's an endless grind at Champion Points which I'm okay with, this is my casual play game when I'm not raiding on WoW. Item quality in this game remains relatively the same, the only difference are the set bonuses that levy any kind of power increase. I see it very difficult to add in anything higher without screwing up the already complacent system that this is far as its ever going to go mentality.

@aliyavana I agree but after you grind ur gear and weps and done all the PvE trials and vet dungeons then it's kind of over you done it and game over until new PvE maps and trials are added until then you can PvP to hold you over and PvP is never over always changing and different ways to play Zerg, ball Zerg, small scale and solo play. That seems more end game in an mmo to me bc it's at the end you done everything and waiting for more.

Here is a good point what else can they add to PvE to make it more like an ever changing new experience that feels like an end game for high lvls? Add trials+ or trials++ that every time you finish a hard mode it gets even harder until the point it's impossible to beat? Or vet dungeons every time you finish it it unlocks a new boss mechanic at the end so you can do vet+ then vet++ so on and so on?

What is it that makes end game end game in a mmorpg? For me it's getting great gear then going off to pvp until more stuff is added and a new lvl cap increase or better sets come out. Seems for pve end game players it's getting the same gear then clearing the same stuff over and over and over and over you get the point

    PvP ISN'T "half the game".

It's 15% at best - and that is in terms of game-world content. That will of course go down once Morrowind (even bigger than Orsinium) goes live.

    In terms of player participation.
Well maybe 30% of players routinely and regularly engage in PvP.
Maybe another 40-50% of players have tried it a handful of times - just to complete the Cyro PvE content, or to unlock Vigour, and never go back.
I'd bet there's around 20% of players who have never and will never set foot in Cyrodiil.

And your argument that PvE endgame is repetitive and PvP isn't is laughable, there's nothing more repetitive in the whole game than flipping Cyro assets.

End game in every non-sandbox MMO is a grind for something outside of PvP.

Game is split between 2 things PvE PvP not saying half as in content or half as in player base half as in the other half of the game or better way to put it the other part of the game people refuse to consider a part of the game just as much as pvpers do the same things.

PvP in MMOs sucks because it lacks any semblance of balance. I only play PvP games where everyone has access to the same gear (i.e. CS:GO, Overwatch, DOTA 2, Smite, SC2, etc.). That's the only way you'll get a competitive experience.

Also, MMOs run like crap. I need a constant 60 fps (144 for shooters) and no more than 40 ping in PvP games. ESO PvP runs at 30 fps and 120 ping. Good luck having a "skill-based" competition under those conditions.

PvE end game in MMO tend to be an gear grind, same in WOW,
Good news is that Morrowind will give new sets so you can start over :)

"Endgame" is what you make it, no more no less.

Personally, I always make sure to pace myself in MMOs so that I never reach "endgame" but instead keep one step behind the new PvE content and with no interest in PvP. It's easily done if you play more than one character and more than one game along with doing other stuff like crafting and achievements etc, as well as having a life away from the computer. As a result I never feel that I am grinding or burning out.
