DPS - NMG vs Clever Alchemist

Currently I'm running 5 pc NMG and 5 pc Leviathan with 2 pc Selenes. I was thinking about swapping NMG for Clever alchemist due to the fact that I am currently relying on potions to gain Major Brutality and Major Savagery. Do you think this would make my build better or worse. Ive been comparing and I see ups and downs to both set-ups.

I play PVE and focus mainly on Melee damage and I am playing an Imperial DK stamina based.

What are your thoughts? 5pc NMG or 5pc Clever alchemist...

Even Hunding's Rage is better than Clever Alchemist, because of maths.

For PVE DPS, Clever Alchemist is pretty terrible. If you are popping potions on cooldown, you are getting about 345 weapon damage (on average) and a bunch of health. Hundings and Nightmothers would both out perform that by a pretty good margin. If you are going to replace a set, replace leviathan. Crit meta is dead.

Alchemist is great for gank/bomb builds in PVP, in PVE, it is just not a good set.

Surely.

Your focus should be a good monster set and either Alkosh or Vicious Ophidian Jewelry. Night mothers is hard to beat as a basic 5 piece, the only caveat is that it doesnt stack with other people wearing it. In other words, only one per group. As long as noone else is wearing it, NM is a solid choice for stam DPS.

@Oreyn_Bearclaw I was just wondering which monster set you should run in PvE as a stamina based DPS? Did the crit change effect those drastically? I have a bunch of monster sets with bad but usable traits to pair with NMG, but I also have 2 maelstrom sharpened daggers. Would it be better to run the daggers with 5 NMG body pieces and VO or still run a monster set?

Dont quote this as gospel, but if you have 2 sharp VMA daggers and a good monster set in even bad traits, then I would run 5 NM body, monster head shoulders, VO or agility Jewelry and Sharp VMA daggers.

I think Kraghs is sort of the standard go to. In VMA and 4 man stuff, velidreth is really strong. On a stam sorc, stormfist is also viable. Even after the nerf, they still hit really hard.

Also, a lot of people are suggesting now that 5/1/1 is better for stamina as opposed to 7 medium. Just FYI. It's actually nice because it gives some flexibility on your monster pieces if you need it.

As others have said CA is not a good set - specifically for DW. CA is not as bad for a 11-set build using 2h or bow or staff since you can trigger its boost back bar and swap to the main bar and have all the benefits of 5-5-2ish for 15s out of 45.

But for a dw/snb 12-set build, not good choice for sustained dps.

Where does Twice Fanged Serpent drop? Isnt that from a trial?

I'm not that great of a player, I do alright but I'm not sure I can run a trial, I'm still working my way through vet dungeons.
