    Children...
    Trolls.....
    And Arsshole......
That sums up most players these days....
Back in my day kids we had gamer ethics and respect, due to the reflection of the world people bring in their Fπ€£ED up lives into the game....
Gaming use to be a place to escape the mundane and madness of real life, a sanctuary to just have fun, now it's all about trying to cause other people suffering so they feel better about them selves...

My husband and I to this day will ask if a player wants that node they are standing next to, if no response then we take it,... If we someone running towards a node we let them have it.

We try to gather nodes off the beaten path so we do not have the competition fighting over resources.

In more experienced developers of games, the best gathering mechanics is where nodes are character bound, and multiple players can gather resources from the same nodes and not effect the resources of other players.

And resources are nearly valueless in those games. Jist because you are archaic, does not mean it is wrong to take whatever you can.

Just take everything in it other stuff I don't care.
Yes it's annoying if people steal chests/nodes if you're fighting over it. But unless a master chest it's not that bad.
Spend some time finding deserted places to farm, plenty of those around:)

And as they say don't feed the troll (aka don't go whisper to people who steal your stuff they only think it it funny)

Actually, I have gathered thousands of worms, insect parts, crawlers and GUTS - never bought any - albeit the guts count stands only c 2K.

There are some players who specifically farm Guts but I do not like killing small creatures. All mine have accumulated by accident.

I started with a lot of ethics as I have never played an MMO like this before.

Then I realized those ethics were not generally shared and were just overall too much.

So now I'm down to these:

1 -Take everything, even what others left behind: their loss = my gain (a stack of worms easily sells for 2k and i always need more lockpicks to loot those chests faster)
2 - Unless someone is explicitly standing over a node fighting for it - that I still respect - I will take it. The reason is that I have seen people fighting near a node and then just leave it - they were fighting for XP, quest thing, whatever. I'm not going to stand around and wait to see if the player is going to take it or not - time is money.
3 - No botting: never have, never will.

And that's it: everything else is fair game.

I suppose its been a while since we had one of these threads.

It is rude to grab a node next to a person fighting the mob next to it.

That being said, you only own the items in your inventory and in the bank. Anything else is unowned until placed there by you. Then you own it.

I find the best thing to do with people being competitive over nodes is to treat them like griefers; the greater the distance you put between yourself amd them, the better your game experience.

Just curious but are there other places in the game where my investments in speed that make my character faster than others are not permitted to be used?

Are their alternative spends in say health also going to be disabled say if we duel to balance out my not being permitted to use my speed for more node gains?

I wonder if it would be better if all nodes were contested by pve monsters and went to the character who did the moster dps, so that node gathering instead ofvactuslky being a race thing (as it is now with first come first serve) were judt like almost all the other rewards and based off combat? I mean, having this one bit of resource based off winning a race, first to get it gets it, seems to really bother some folks.

How many times do we see these "rage against the race" threads but we hardly ever see cries for folks to stop attacking things as much.

Maybe if we made chopping wood a DPS threshold test folks would be happier.

"Didn't hit that rubedite ore hard enough so back to the practice dummy" likely more palatable than "some blsnkety blank mother blanker rushed past me with streak and stole a dozen nodes i had claimed."

Only question is i suppose, should the nodes get to hit back?

This gave me a good laugh. It's things like these that are the same as the kinds of tells I get when I do it, which makes it even funnier to me.

Because in reality, I'm actually a very nice, generous person. However after over a decade of farming competition in MMO's I've come to just switch off the "*** given" when farming.

Besides. If I am to go by the your line of reasoning here, this info points that you must be an idoit irl to assume and declare something so childish.

A line of reasoning can go both ways. You should always consider the potential repercussions and rebuttals carefully when making a bold deceleration of a person's character.

    Just saying!

Players will do what they want. There is no code of conduct regarding anything in the game. There is etiquette that some players place on themselves that others do not follow. There are respectful players and there are those that do whatever they can to advance. There are players with lots of friends and players with few friends. There are p/o'ed players and players that 'lol' others.

...but there is no code of conduct.

Why do I suddenly feel like Yoda?

BTW I'll take those worms any day. Do you have any idea what they sell for in-guild? Anyone that leaves those behind is a sucker.

    It's an MMO.

If you don't like "sharing" then go play Skyim or FF14 (the nodes are instanced in that game)

I admit, there were a few times when I grabbed a node or mostly objective someone else was going for. though in my defense, its becasue I just started the quest and didn't realize that those things don't just spawn on their own - you need to spawn them. but other then that - I try as much as possible to behave in game according to the principle of "do onto others as you want them to do onto you"

that said, yes, jesus christ PICK UP ALL YOUR STUFF FROM NODES AND CHESTS. you can delete it out of your inventory, but when you just let them sit there, partially unpicked - they don't have a chance to respawn and you are ruining it for EVERYONE. I understand space issues, I really do. delete crap you don;t want. ffs.

We are not talking about permissions, naturally everything not forbidden by the code of conduct is permitted!

We are talking about common courtesy and not being a jerk.

If you feel like your investment in speed entitles you acting like an jerk to try and steal other peoples node enjoyment out from under their noses - well, that is your personality flaw. Enjoy your extra resources, knowing that you are a bad person part and of the problem why the world is sucking.
Or you can choose to be -fair-

For your information, "fairness" means not to take advantage over others, not to use an advantage if it comes at a deteriment to others.
Fair would be to leave them the node they are going for, and use your extra speed to just get the next node before they even see it.
Unfair would be to use your advantage to steal every node out from under their noses, then laughing at their frustration.

You can choose what you want to be, how you want to act.

Everyone else just gets to judge you for it.

Use your Flash Gordon skills to get to the next node before them. Use the Champion harvest passive to pick them faster. Not everything has to be the epic battle of wills over a single node. Harvesting PVP is not really a productive way to farm materials.

Interesting thought. From a game play perspective, I have to think that it makes newer players suffer at the hands of more experienced players. The experienced players will be able to drop a ton of damage on a mob in less than a second and take whatever that monster was guarding. This might be a thing if nodes were a fixed resource rather than scaled to the player. Now that we have to uniform nodes everywhere, new and experienced players are fighting over the same nodes. Bobby wants his Iron so he can level blacksmithing while Annie wants that Rubedite to finish her daily writs. Annie will probably win every time they meet.

I think that farming nodes is an interesting window into who is around you. When my character is running for a node and sees another player doing the same, she instantly stops and backs up. I view it as a chance to display her nature as a healer - a role she takes extremely seriously. Just as she freely gives heals and buffs, she is happy to let another player have the few chunks of whatever in that node. Similarly, the behavior of other characters farming nodes displays much about their nature as well - be it dog-eat-dog, entitled, sharing. . . .

I autoloot into my craftibag so no worms left behind. Before the craftibag, I would save pickup time by autolooting, then use that saved time to destroy junk I didn't want when my inventory filled up. That worked out as reasonably efficient and courteous I think.

Reviewing this thread shows a few folks do exist that understand the implications of behavior as demonstrated by something as innocuous as farming items in a MMO. It also clearly shows there are some that either don't understand, or do understand but don't care. To those who supposedly take enjoyment by inflicting tears on others, which is another level beyond ignorance or apathy, there is a term for that. Go ahead, look it up. Of course, there is no amount of text posted in a thread that is going to change the nature of who people are, just as those who "laugh at the tears of others" are not going to convert me toward their moral beliefs. In short, I will continue to act as I do because I believe it is appropriate. And, at the end of the day, it's how I feel about myself that matters, not how many ore / wood / flowers I have collected that measures my worth.
