The real question is, what are you taking instead that is more useful? Health regen? Reduced stam costs? If you put points in arcanist, you have more resources which means you could afford to lessen your other forms of resource management a bit. Maybe skip casting a channeled focus and toss another dps ability in. It's also important to note if this is for pvp or pve. The general theory in pve is you never give up dps for anything unless you absolutely have to, but that sustain is much more important for pvp.

Like to know how you get to those numbers as my regen sucks I'm only at 1100

Good point, but i play PvE solo only, so i need that defence from Focus if i want to kill even a pathetic world bosses solo.

Sounds like you have a specific playstyle that lends itself well to the setup you have. If it's working for you, then keep at it. I'd suspect from the regen numbers posted that you're probably not topping the dps charts, which is fine while soloing, but if you were to play group content, you'd likely find you have far too much regen. Something to keep in mind. Also remember, if things die faster, you don't need as many resources to kill them. Dps is resource management.

Yeah, it seems all "green" skills are kinda crap for mag users, except Magician and..... Arcanist )

Exactly. It's essentially the resource management set of trees. Dps whether stam or magicka based really have few options other than max out appropriate regen and cost reduction. You can play with it a bit, but there just aren't that many other viable options to toss more than a few points into.
