Yeah I have tried it. There seems to be a range of about 22 meters like other gap closers. The gap close will fail if the enemy dodge rolls the follow up pull or dies from the damage it inflicts. It's no good for PvP because it's too unreliable.
When it does work as a gap closer though you can swap weapons will you are mid travel which is nice.

At least a dead enemy still gives major expedition with chains

Chains were made undodgable. I used Silver Leash for a solid week to see how it would do on paper it has the highest range and damage but it's too undependable you can hit a target 36m away but if the step 23m away you lose the gap close pull and you have no way of knowing that it's not in range.
Now when you get the hang of how far 22m is the added damage is great but it has the height reading problems of chains sadly it's a cool idea but it's just not worth it.
