Do you give your mounts or pets custom names, and if so what are they based on?
I tend to name mine after movie characters they resemble:
Black senche panther mount: Bagheera
Senche lion mount: Shere-Khan
(Future) frost saber mount: Shira
Senche lioness mount: Kiara
Black striped senche pet: Mirage
Moonlight senche tiger pet: Bastet
Daedric scamp pet: Grouch

✭✭✭✭✭My Pony Guar pet is named "Torsten Jr" after the warlord and hero of the Pact Torsten Hartwig.
My Banekin is named "Pudgyknuckles" in reference to a NPC's familiar from the Pathfinder RPG campaign I am currently running.
Most of my horses were named by my friend who keeps horses after real horses she has known or knows.

If you are refering to the villan in Simba's pride it is spelled Zira.
My mounts and pets doesn't have any special names. I mamed my cloud spotted senche "Growl"(some of my favorite bands uses growl song, and it is a feline so it can growl), and my black cat pet Shrödinger.
I really wanted the black mane senche lion and name him Scar but since it was in crown crates I decided to pass on it.0 -

Bananko✭✭✭✭Since my only TESO character thus far is Imperial, I initially researched sites for common Italian horse names and pet names:
Imperial horse mount: Allegro
Palamino horse mount: Cavallo
Bravil Retreiver pet: Corrado
Alik'r Dune-Hound pet: Aldo
For mounts and pets accumulated afterward, I simply looked up the Italian name of whatever that animal was and named it that.

Clouded Senche-Leopard: Niwl - Welsh for mist.
Ice Wolf: Kashur - A Frostwolf sharman in The Other MMO.
Imperial Horse: Luna - as in the moon (was tempoarily re-named Binky during the Witches Festival, to match the polymorph).
Black Horse: Liadri - after Liadri the Concealing Dark from GW2.
Palomino Horse: Marya - Quenyan for pale or fallow.
White Mane Horse: Halda - Quenyan for shadowed.
Bantam Guar: Red - Because he is.
Echalette: Spike - has spikes.
Imgakin Monkey: Simach - Welsh for monkey.
Jackal: Krin - Ta'agra for grin or smile.
Mudcrab: Claude - literally no idea, it just seemed to fit.
Northern Lynx: Lumi - as in light (apparently lynx is derived from a word meaning light).
Pocket Mammoth: Mumak - singular mumakil (it's funny because he's smaller than a regular mammoth...yeah I know my sense of humour is lame).
Sanguine's Black Goat: Anakin - because of his ambiguous morality and annoying bleat.
Striated Pony Guar: Taini - sounds like tiny.
Striped Senche-Panther: Kyr - What my main character's panther familiar/pet is called in every game where she can have one.

I started doing this, but stopped a long time ago. I think I have some named, but I am not sure which ones, or what the names are. I don't even know what the default names are.
First, they span characters, which can mean different naming requirements. An Altmer might name my little cat "Filthy Midget Khajiit" or "Khajiit Slave-In-Training", which my Khajiit might not approve of. I would sign on one day and the Khajiit would have killed the cat and the Altmer.
Second, no one else can see the names. Unless I look, I can't even see them. I mostly forget they have a name. Dropped ball, lost down the sewer, never to be seen again.
