Lots of people had problems with them, people did not know to play mostly and was confused that they could not group on Doshia, many AoE attacks make harvesters an joke.I still remember the beta. I used nothing more than light attacks and DoTs on Doshia and Gutsripper.
Don't feel bad, OP. We learn new things every day.

Was one guy who demonstrated how to beat her using an restoration staff and only light attacks by interrupting her.
Remember Gutsripper fell down in an hole beside the stairs making him easy to kill

Everyone was stupid their first weeks into this game. For the longest time i hd no idea about armor passives and set bonuses. I used to be a dual wielding heavy arnor magicka sorcerer with all my attribute points into magic but using stamina attacks.

Oblivion had the amber/madness stuff in Shivering Isles, where you could find raw ore and give it to the master smith to get a nice suit of Amber or Madness armor.
EDIT: clarification
