In WOW I thought the boats was just for decoration in weeks as I was unable to catch any, then I notice other players coming off. Also tough the train station was an dungeon.
No epic one in ESO I remember, outside of avoiding public dungeons but they was much harder in the start and I did not how to handle groups.

I still remember the beta. I used nothing more than light attacks and DoTs on Doshia and Gutsripper.

Don't feel bad, OP. We learn new things every day.

ESO was (and still is) my first MMO, so I wasn't familiar with the various abbreviations people use. For a good while, I didn't know what AFK or WTS meant. After meerly googling them, I felt pretty darn stupid.

There is actually a quest in Stormhaven which requires you to obtain a pickaxe, either by looting one or intimidating a guy into giving you his. Every time I do that quest I just think to myself "why can't I use the same pickaxe I've been mining half the zone with already?". :p

It does show that a proper complete tutorial is missing in ESO and not just for combat mechanics.

Yep, someone even asked me to group up with him for killing Gutsripper. I told him I would see how hard it was to solo first and he answered something along the lines of "It's your funeral." That was reassuring but I managed to kill the thing without Silver Bolts or bugs. As for Doshia, I certainly didn't have any AoEs back then. Had to kill the orbs one by one each time. Then they got nerfed to the ground :(

EDIT: It wasn't on the first attempt, I'll give you that.

I did the same thing. Not only Skyrim but every other MMO I've played required you to have gathering tools to collect crafting materials so I just assumed it was the same here.

I was so confused the first time I clicked on a log by accident and my character pulled an axe out of nowhere and started chopping. I then went searching through her inventory trying to find where this axe was (I didn't even have any of the weapons) and wondering how I'd missed picking it up...then someone finally explained.

I thought the exact same thing. It seemed so random that after all this time pulling out whatever gathering tools I needed from no where all of a sudden I actually had to go and find a pickaxe.

I remember back in beta when World Bosses (skulls on your map) were actually 'elite' zones where ALL the mobs in the area were elite, and the 'boss' was just an even stronger elite.

It was hard to even GET to the boss. But boy did it take me a while to figure out the signification of those extra gizmos on the health bars. ('Why the @#%* is this skeleton so tough???!)

I remember waiting just inside the instance with Doshia for someone else to come along so we could take her out together... :s

For some reason, while Doshia gave me fits, and so did some of the other early quest bosses (including the Bloodthorn leader who tries to kill King Casimir - I think I tried to kill him about a dozen times before giving up, going away and leveling a bunch before coming back and finishing the quest), I never had any problems with Gutsripper. Killed him easily the very first time, even though I was lower level than I should have been for the quest. I think somehow by random chance my playstyle at the time (such as it was) just happened to work well in that particular fight, even though it worked poorly in most other fights.
