Poisons--addition to dps or replace damage

If I add poison to my weapon (potion) does it replace enchantment damage or does it add to the damage of the weapon. If it adds it would be a good idea to have poison on the weapon all the time, is that correct?

Poisons override enchantments. For the case of vMA weapons you still keep the weapon/spell damage bonus but you lose the rest of the enchantment while poisons are equipped.
