Guild Recruitment Threads and Sub Forum - Do you think bumping should be allowed?

First off I will freely admit that I just got warned that bumping was against forum rules. Okay, I get it...I won't bump my guild's recruitment thread anymore.

However, I wanted to get other people's thoughts on this. I think bumping for guild recruitment threads should be allowed. The rule against bumping is essentially anything that does not add to constructive conversation is considered spam and is not allowed. Hence, bumping...not allowed. I generally agree with these rules but when it comes to guild recruitment there normally isn't an actual conversation taking place in these threads (just people asking for invitations).

I'm not trying to revenge post stick it to the man. I actually want this to be thought about...

Essentially what I've just been told is that I can no longer recruit for my guild. Here are the reasons why:
* Small Guild: recruitment is slow and it will be slow (we don't have a desire to be big or grow fast). This is why I was only bumping my post when it left the first page...which was approximately every three to four days.

* My guild has no desire to zone/trade/channel spam recruit. We want people to be interested in what the guild is about over randomly being invited due to zone chat spam. The guild recruitment thread was a great place to give a history of the guild and what the guild is about. Also spamming in zone chat is probably more annoying than bumping a post to more people.

* My other thought is that I will just recreate the thread after it disappears from the first page. But wait that would be considered spam as well (And no ZOS I won't be doing that...don't worry I won't cause you any future moderation headaches).

* Finally I just want to add that if trying to get this rule changed for this one sub forum is viewed as negative behavior for arguing with mods...then feel free to delete the post. I just wanted to start the thought process and conversation in regards to perhaps getting this changed.

I will no longer be posting my guilds recruitment info in this sub forum (unless a policy change occurs). It's not worth it. It's already on the second page where it will never be seen. This is a great game and some great guilds are out there that pretty much stick to the top of these sub forums because they are trade guilds. I argue is there anything different between a small guild adding a "bump" every three to four days vs a large guild that responds to and I quote "Please send invite to @account_name" with "Invite Sent"?

    Yeah it's lame.
I've resorted to spamming /z instead...

I think recruitment threads should be allowed to be bumped at the most twice a day (morning/evening) but the bumps should have to contain more than just "bump".

Even if it's "Guild is still open and looking for members"

One thing I've noticed is that "updates" seem to be treated differently from "bumps." Post every few days on your guild recruitment thread about last night's PVP adventures or how you just hit 50 members or whatever, and it will (rightly) not be regarded as a bump, though it will have the same effect. The forum policy doesn't exist to prevent you from giving your guild visibility; it exists to prevent lazy posting.
7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019, Flawless Conqueror. MagDK/stamplar/stamwarden/mageblade. Requiem, Legend, Knights of Daggerfall. Currently retired from the wars; waiting on performance improvements.

I agree with you @casparian. I've seen too many forums that have no rule against a bump, except for how often. I do prefer to post a sentence or two about what we did in the past few days, or hype upcoming events. It tends to send a message that our guild is involved with the game.

To the OP, we've had good success without "bumping". So I respectfully disagree with your position. I do hope you develop a winning formula for your guild recruitment post.

That's definitely a good thought. Thanks.
