I always played with heavy armor and then i decide to create a "mage". My first impresion was like what???? it is tremendous squishie and really easy to be one shoted by almost anyone. Even with my NB Stamina in medium armor i have more chances. And the most funny is that i don't really see a big increment in the damage i do....

Then you are doing it totally wrong. As a light armor sorc, I sling a lot of spells around, and wards keep enemies from ever touching my HP. Combined with a high crit rate, and...well I've yet to lose a duel so...

When I first started playing, my first character was a sorceror. I was brand new to ESO, and thought that sorcerors were SUPPOSED to wear light armor and use staves. I had no idea there were other ways I could play a sorceror.

I'm still playing the same character, but I long ago switched to heavy armor. I just really don't understand why anyone would want to use light armor. I don't see any benefits, and I see a whole lot of negatives.

the active skill can help too. I use that to clear maelstrom arena makes light much tankier.

The benefits are pretty clear from the passives!! Extra Cost reduction & regen per piece, and with 5 a wedge of penetration and spell Critical.

You news to use wards, constantly, done right 7 light is the only way to go. You kill alot easier and have better resources. I personally prefer it to 5:1:1 even as the extra sustain beats the slight gain in protection & mettle.

Get harden ward unlocked then you basically double your health pool and you'll see.

Heavy sorc you survive nut don't kill as well, dead enemies can't kill you!

Bonus to magicka and spell penetration means I can keep warding myself while punching through your armor with crit shards.

You should be squishy, you're wearing a sheet of cloth for armor!

In PVE I summon a clanfear who tanks for me and I use skills to lock groups of monsters in place while I throw down AOE spells, and then spam lightning attacks. If need be cast magic armor abilities.

    Heavy gets up front.
    Medium gets behind.
Light gets a good vantage point from the back lines. :)

Do damage from afar. You're not a front line warrior in light armor.

Food of course, then undaunted passive (adds up to 6% to all stats), being in cyrodiil adds health, ayleid well adds health, emperor buff adds health, structured entropy adds 8% health, wearing heavy armor adds health, inner fire adds 7% magicka, any other mage's guild ability slotted adds 2% magicka, then you have racial passives(up to 10% stat bonus), sorcs get a % magicka buff on their armor toggle... just off the top of my head.

Even without all those extra pvp or ayleid buffs you mentioned, its easy to hit 40k max magicka simply by having all max magicka enchantments on armor, 64 points into magicka, max hp + max magicka food, 5-1-1 light armor. And if you are breton or somethign with magicka boost, you should be way higher.

Yeah. He just asked how people in videos are getting their stats so high. So i tried to list all the ways i remembered. I didn't mean to say you need all that together to meet the goal.

There are two ways to go about mage-ing.

Classic fantasy wizard, light armor for magica support, pop shields and burn them down with a fireworks for spells before they even touch you, then streak through the survivors.

Battlemage, heavy armor for protection and lots of heavy attacks for resource management, go for the slow and steady approach and grind them to dust.

    Both work.
    Choose which you like better...

Undaunted Mettle requires running pledges first, which is difficult already if you can't handle yourself in Vet Dungeons so doing Normal ones will take you a long time to rank that up. So disregarding that passive, I do the same things you've listed. Max magic attribute, max magic enchants, max health and magic food and the most I've gotten my pool was to about 36k. You really have to maximize your build in order to have 40k+ resources.

crit, regen, penetration, reduced cost, increased dampen magic > damage IMO. LA is great but I struggle with 5x pve gear in pvp which makes sense however unfortunate that may be.

@teladoy Yes, no reason not to rock food or drink, or one of the odd combo picks from the events that give some max stats and recovery.

I play a Nord Templar based Mage (Destro/Resto Staff and no stabby-light-shaft or JesusBeam).

I wear 2 Heavy (Chest, Boots) and the rest Light. Use CP to add mitigation and resource management. Skills I have chosen focus on AOE Trash clearing, with Buffs and Heals on the back-bar.

Only time I die is if I pull 8+ at once, and miss an AOE hit. Never (and I mean NEVER) run out of Magicka (in fact I can't recall the last time I dropped below 30% Magicka) an can hit AOE of 25k DPS.

Now, his single target DPS is lacking, my build probably isn't a viable end-game progression build, but that's irrelevant as this toon will become my Master Crafter once Morrowind goes live, and my "main" will be a Warden.

Even adding one bit of Heavy (usually Chest) can make a huge difference to survivability without unduly gimping damage and resource management.

Yup, I wear heavy chest and medium shoulders. Next to no reason not to go 5/1/1, especially once your undaunted skill line has progressed enough. Tri stat glyphs are good on large pieces too (helm, legs and chest).
