Picked up three paintings in three days after the last maintenance. Since then, nothing over a four day period, after opening a lot of chests. Absolutely nothing from buried treasure.
Patterns are reasonably simple to come by, at least for me. Picking them up from enemy npc, back packs night stands etc and stealing in general.
As for whispers about patterns dropping from chests, not read anything on here about it or in zone chat.

Ahh.. that is a good point... I think the painting I found was in a happened-upon treasure chest, not a treasure map treasure. Ok - I had heard whispers in one of my guilds that furniture patterns would be showing up in map chests so I had been hoarding all of my treasure maps - but wasn't sure if this is what they had meant or if it was something more. I find quite a few crafting patterns but blues and purples are far and few (as they should be, imho) but if there was a chance... I'd keep hoarding them.

That is because it is still broken on console, at the moment you cant get any paintings from them maps.
